"It’s like a punch to the throat. Wolfwood chokes, whining and groaning and cursing at the same time so that the sound out of his mouth is more a garbled mess than anything intelligible. But Vash responds as if he can understand, and maybe he can. If Wolfwood has been watching him, maybe Vash has been watching over Wolfwood."
gentleness is hard to find on Gunsmoke, but Wolfwood and Vash make do under the dark cover of night.

Summary
Wolfwood moves his leg. As it brushes against some of the endless expanse of leather covering his legs Vash startles again, the pressure letting up with a twitch and a sheepish little sound.
Oh. Now there’s something he’d like to hear again.
A chase ends with Vash and Wolfwood stuck in a hot, stuffy box. Hours of boredom, bad choices, and more-or-less accidental touches follow.

"I know it's very forward of me, but I… I know you want to feel good," Meryl said, voice softening. She took a step forward and placed her hands on Vash's shoulders. She was so tiny that when she stood in front of him they were more or less at eye level.
"What?" Vash whimpered. Certainly he'd heard her wrong. She should have been mad about this. Why hadn't she yelled at him yet? His mind, rotted by his fantasies, must have been inventing things and twisting her words. Or, maybe he'd passed out earlier and this was all a dream.
"I know you don't think you deserve it, and I know you won't ask for it, but I want to do this for you" she continued, running one hand from his shoulder up to gently hold his neck. "If you really don't want this, tell me to stop."
Or - Meryl hears Vash struggling to get off through the hotel wall, and offers to help him out

Summary
Wolfwood stiffened when Vash tipped his head against his neck, as if affectionate, and sighed, "Did it hurt?" His temple felt too hot against Wolfwood's neck.
"Huh? Did what hurt?" Wolfwood questioned, wary of the oddly... warm and gooey look on Vash's face in his dark, surface-shine reflection.
Directly peeking over at Wolfwood's bare, unshielded eyes, Vash returned, "When you fell from heaven?"
At first, Wolfwood froze, mostly in confusion. The flush on his face flared hot enough to quickly melt that into irritation. How was Vash able to do that? Perfectly mimic the look in a man's eyes Wolfwood had seen dozens of times, right before they would ask him to sleep with them?

“The petticoats,” Wolfwood growls, and, fed up, hoists his skirts, kicks off one of Vash’s hands from where it’d been sneaking up his calf, and hikes his leg up to dig his knee into the table, balancing on one slim heel. The change in angle shifts the toy he’s had slipped inside him for the past half hour.

All of this led Vash to where he currently found himself: three drinks in and listening to the small cracks of the full glasses in his hands as his gaze moved across a roaring fire in the middle of the town square to land on Wolfwood, his shirt unbuttoned, his jacket long gone, and his sleeves pushed to his elbows as he moved his hips to the rhythm of the band.

Summary
For a few minutes, the world falls away. Vash is puttering around in his periphery, but Wolfwood can tune him out, narrowing his scope to nothing but the beam of his flashlight and the last bits of dirt and grit the sandstorm has thrashed his beloved bike with. He scrubs. He polishes. He resists the urge to adjust his rolled up sleeves or the jacket he’s folded into a cushion beneath him with his irrevocably dirty hands. The rhythm of the work finds him again.
And then there’s a noise. Soft, barely a catch of breath, but it lassos Wolfwood’s attention and pulls, his gaze slipping from the part he’s scrubbing to find—
Left to his own devices, Vash has assembled a tableau. The lantern’s been placed off to one side with deliberation, bathing the scenery in a low, sultry light. He’s rolled out his bedroll, shed his jacket, and bundled it with his bag to prop up his torso into an indolent sprawl across the bier he’s made for himself. His iles-long legs are spread, and he’s got one hand between them, palming teasingly over his crotch.

“A fuckin’ what?”
“You—after you… y’know. What you said. It does that.”
Wolfwood tilts his head in confusion, watching as Vash approaches the object and presses in a button. A jet of water shoots out from the bowl, startling him bad enough to jump.
“My God, Spikey…” he breathes, “this is insane.”
A fancy hotel stay, an intimate massage, and failing miserably at not falling in love.

Something about Vash's smile suddenly looked off. "Oh. Uh."
He didn't say anything else for a very long and confusing moment, until it slowly dawned on Meryl that perhaps she had just said something strange. Something she never said.

Nicholas rubs his hand down Vash’s back. “Can I help somehow?”
“You can die.”
After stumbling upon a geo plant, Nicholas learns several things about Vash in quick succession. Namely, the reason for that sweet, floral scent that drives him crazy.

“Yeah?” They stared at each other wordlessly for a few moments before Wolfwood gritted his teeth. “I was enjoying it!"

Summary
Vash pauses at the door when they reach it, but Wolfwood blows past him, catching him by the elbow to pull him over the threshold. Vash’s yelp of surprise is covered by the thump of Wolfwood kicking the door shut behind them, and whatever noise he was going to make next is swallowed by the click of the lock.
“I’m gonna kiss you,” Wolfwood announces.
"Oh.” Vash recognizes the tone beneath the words—the way Wolfwood will sometimes say something out loud to gauge whether it should happen or not. It’s usually along the lines of “I’m gonna knock your teeth in.” It’s never been kissing before.
But now the moment’s here, and Vash is woefully unprepared. He should have realized when he caught Wolfwood giving him that look as he picked himself up off the ground—a look that Vash wouldn’t dare call “smitten” out loud, even if it was the only word that came to mind. Wishful thinking, right?

Wolfwood goes to Inner December for a donut. Is it a waste of an entire day and a literal pain in the ass as he sits on a worn leather seat on a bumping bus? Yeah. Maybe a little bit. But there just aren’t any worthy sources of baked goods in Outer December, and Vash needs a donut.
He probably needs something much more powerful. A doctor. Or a year's worth of uninterrupted sleep. Something. Something that Wolfwood can’t give him, no matter how much he wants to be able to. But he can get him a damn donut.
