They are ingrained in us from birth, so much so that we may not realise exactly what they are claiming. For that reason, ThermoCow has ranked all 17* club songs in order of their ambition and the extravagance of their claims.
* the Fremantle Dockers club song was disqualified for being fundamentally rubbish.

At this point I'm just going to make this bookmarks and hope nobody at AO3 squints too hard. I think these can still count as fannish!
This remains my favourite online piece of writing of all time, and my favourite writing style. It's quintessentially Australian in how derived its humour is from that of the English, ironically. The device of taking something that, for most, does not merit sincerity and treating it as seriously as any other more "worthy" topic naturally speaks to me, since it's 1) the foundation of much research in academia (mostly the Humanities) and 2) it's kind of always been my thing, what with my earnest, vaguely intellectual passion for mostly Baby Shit - Mario, Astérix etc. It tickles the same funny bone as the "I would not be saying wahoo no matter how fun the jump was" tweet. I tried to emulate this style with Satchel.
"The fact that they can do this at home or far away boggles the mind" rings in my head every time Geelong wins. Which, considering where Richmond are currently, is every time I'm at a game involving them - though of course I'll never stop bringing up 2020 when Geelong fans start getting cute with us.

To link this as a rec on AO3 feels a little strange, and I of course hope Kriss never finds out. But how could we sit here and insist there is no angle from which this can be called RPF? Maybe it's not "fannish" because it's not the work of a fan, but those who write political RPF to humiliate politicians they hate aren't fans either, and yet they legally reside in this website of ours.
And it's funny to argue in defence of this categorisation in spite of it not being a "fan"work, because Kriss' character makes "correct" claims about Taylor Swift while on his four-month review expedition, all while despising her music (the premise of this Kerfuffle magazine). His hate is genuine, it leads to truth, it leads to analysis of who she is - in direct contrast to her fans, who love "[j]ust a vibrating slab of rich dark nothing" and cannot actually name a single thing about her ("You will have noticed that Taylor Swift’s fans are uniquely incapable of explaining what they actually like about her. Just that she writes her own lyrics, that it’s all so personal and relatable, that she is so much *herself*. But the rocks spinning silently in space are also themselves"). A haterwork, then, is more authentic than a fanwork.
But at the same time, by the time we get to the Lillith thing, aren't they both hallucinating a True Taylor Swift? Maybe this character can only make so many connections between what we know about moral and immortal beings and a nonentity as a hysterical fan can between real, relatable emotions and Taylor's plastic mass appeal. -
