    He heard a gasp stuck in Soobin's throat. His eyes were shining with tears like broken glass, trembling fingers curling into a fist to ground himself.

    And Yeonjun belatedly realized, I'm going too far.

    “You don't mean it.” Soobin's voice was shaky as he spoke, coming closer to Yeonjun with a small step. “Tell me you don't mean it.”

    But I can't make myself stop.

    “Just… Get out, Soobin. I really don't want to see you right now.”

    “We should go on a date,” Jingyi blurts out, the second the idea forms in his head, bypassing whatever tiny filter between it and his mouth he actually has.
    Zizhen stops dead. They’re still a floor above their classroom, and now they’re going to be really late. “What?” He doesn’t look opposed to the idea. Just—puzzled. And a little bit flushed. Oh, man, he thinks Jingyi means like a real date date and he’s trying to find a way to reject Jingyi without hurting his feelings—
    “I mean, friends can go on dates, too, right? Why should they get all the fancy dinners and moonlight walks and bouquets of flowers?”
    A slow smile spreads over Zizhen’s entire face. It starts with a curve of his lips but then his eyes crinkle a bit and that one dimple appears. “That’s a great idea!”
