He looks down at her and it's kind of too much, the wine and the emotions of the day coming down on her all at once, and there's something there in the depths of his eyes that's knocking on a door she keeps shut inside. So she buries her face against his upper chest and rests her cheek against him. She can feel his breath against her hair and she can smell his clean, masculine scent and feel the texture of his clean-shaven jawline if she moves her head just so.
His arms tighten around her and she feels like this is the physical manifestation of how they make each other feel safe, the way they'd talked about the night after she'd stitched him up. The way they fit perfectly together, balancing each other as they lean into one another and just hold on through the song.

Summary
High school starts at a running pace, and it doesn’t show any sign of slowing down any time soon. Between AP classes, debate and basketball for Bellamy, and young politicians and volleyball for Clarke, they don’t have much time to see each other outside of study hall and weekly study sessions for Mr. Kane’s class. Still, they find time.
Together they survive the first year. Bellamy spends less time at home, choosing instead to stay with either Miller or Murphy, and occasionally falling asleep on Clarke’s couch. Those nights were his favorites, and it only had a little to do with waking up to Jake making them waffles and omelets every morning. But as always, with Clarke right there in front of him, looking like absolutely everything he wants, the guilt that comes with the knowledge fades, drawn away by desire, and it doesn’t seem so bad.
He pushes back in his chair, keeps his eyes on her as he stands up and takes measured steps towards her. She still doesn’t move, but he can see the way she’s already affected when he goes to stand in front of her. The way her throat works as she swallows, the slight flush creeping up her chest, the flare of heat darkening her eyes. She tilts her head back to meet his gaze, and he can see through the sweet smile she gives him.
“Yes, Bellamy?” She asks, and he knows what she wants. He’s the one who turned her away, so he’s the one who has to ask.

Melancholy has a distinct color.
It’s blue, but not a rich blue of that of the deep sea. It’s the color of ice blowing off a glacier at dusk, pale and haunting. It morphs into deep blacks when it touches your fingertips and it swarms around a person like a thick fog, threatening to suffocate whomever its wrapped itself around.
Clarke is familiar. She’s familiar because its become a part of her morning routine: take a shower, apply light mascara, get dressed, and watch as the color of melancholy snakes around her hair, tinting the sharp blonde.
Melancholy has a distinct color, but even more so, it hugs you like a friend and betrays you like an enemy.

After tragedy alters Clarke’s outlook on life, she turns her back on everything set out before her: medical school, a life of privilege, and most importantly, family. When she rents a room in The Ark – a brewery converted into living spaces – she’s forced out of her comfort zone when surrounded by the tenants who live there.
