Silence greeted him when he rose to consciousness. The room seemed bright behind his closed eyes and it was cold in here, almost uncomfortably so. But considering he didn’t have a shirt or boots, it might feel worse than it was. At least he wasn’t lying on the floor. The room was empty except for the mattress. The window to his left was six inches thick. The wall probably was too. At least he wasn’t underground.
Straight ahead was a door, a steel door. And above that was a camera, it blinked at him silently. The door opened after a minute and his mate walked in. A shiver ran through him and he made a fist with his flesh hand to keep it from shaking, the smell of burning rubber and the sound of shrieking steel echoing through his ears. A reminder he'd been bonded by force. How could he forget?

Law stared ahead of himself and clenched his jaw. His pride was throwing a fit in his gut, but his body was too desperate to feel full and taken for his mouth to bark its usual insults.
Kidd reached forward to take a fist full of Law’s hair. He yanked the doctor’s neck open and brought his lips to his ear.
