“You know,” Olruggio says, roughly. He doesn’t move to take Qifrey’s hand again. “You know. You can’t not know, Qifrey.”
Qifrey just looks at him. “I do.”
The rain continues falling.
(And so Olruggio forgets. And he inevitably figures it out again, because of course he does; and he inevitably chooses to forget again, and again, and again, because his heart is always the same. The story is always the same. Like a tale from under a silverwood tree, like a myth from the days of old, not so much tied by the constraints of the narrative so much as being narrative itself. Antigone must bury her brother. Iphigenia must be put to death. At a thousand turns, in a thousand ways, Orpheus must turn, and he must look, again, and again.
And Olruggio forgets.)
There is an old story about a witch and a silverwood tree.

Summary
His fright at the thought that Coco might have been in danger when he woke up was heart-stopping. The feeling he had when he thought he’d forgotten one of the simplest spells in his collection was….something else. Like a vice around his throat. A garotte of terror.
Olruggio can't claim to be the picture of perfect health and wellbeing, but things are getting strange. He's forgetting stuff - stuff that he really shouldn't be forgetting. And he doesn't know why.

It’s happening more and more often these days.
He’s been living with this curse as long as he can remember, the ache behind his eyes never falling below a certain point, a constant reminder of what will happen if he ever once allows himself to set down all it is he carries. He’s been furious, terrified, heartbroken; he’s let his hands grow so tainted that he hesitates to touch the world, let the black in his soul harm those closest to him, let it drive him to secrets and cruelties and forbidden spells in pursuit of a cure, of answers, of just one more day to try. Qifrey has ruined beautiful things and prevented new ones from being born, has rent himself into a shape that breaks through the world, has stolen each new moment of his life or paid for it in blood and memories. He has crafted a life of suffering and placed everything he cares about atop its precarious sill.

Olruggio wrapped his arms around Qifrey’s waist and pulled him close. He rested his chin on Qifrey’s shoulder, warm and real and solid. Qifrey returned the gesture, his eye sliding shut. He let out a breath. They remained that way for a long while, leaning against each other. This could not ease Qifrey—he’d managed a delicate balance that allowed him to indulge in these small ways while retaining his ever-present fear—but Olruggio’s weight became heavier and heavier as he relaxed into it.
Qifrey could do these things for Olruggio; he could take care of him, though it would never make up for everything that he had done.

Olruggio didn’t think Qifrey liked physical touch at all, but now that the curse is gone, the white-haired man immediately decides that Olruggio’s personal space is his personal property and he will be burrowing into Olruggio's ribcage, thank you very much.
