Summary
The day Zoro agreed to follow Luffy was the day Zoro’s life changed.
He wouldn’t have expected it given his current circumstance of being strung up in the yard, crucified and on display for the entire marine base to mock and gawk at. Yet, even though his predicament couldn’t get much worse—having been beaten and starved up until this point—there was an irritating hope that presented itself in the form of a scrawny boy wearing a straw-hat. Both of his brothers facepalm, and the corners of Zoro’s mouth quirks up slightly in amusement. “I did,” he answers. Luffy beams.
“Thanks then, Zoro!” With that, he jumps up to his feet, and without a word, is dragging his brothers away. Zoro blinks bemusedly. Seems they have somewhere to be. Or something. He really has no idea.
Zoro gets up and starts making his way towards his towel, then freezes.Wait.
When the fuck did he tell Luffy his name?

The crew offered no help, but that didn’t stop them from joining in the fun. Sanji almost regretted bringing it up, but even he couldn't deny that making up shit that “Ace” said made them all roll with laughter.
It was a good thing Ace loved the game just as much.

There’s voices around him, speaking in raucous, loud tones, unforgiving. It’s harsh on his ears after so long of the quiet low timbre of Jinbei’s voice and the dark wickedness of his jailor’s voice, and the scolding pity of his grandfather’s. It makes something in his chest release, the familiarity of celebrating pirates a soothing balm.
Then he realizes that one of the voices sounds sort of like Pops, but that can’t be true.
He blinks open his eyes.

“You’re the brat’s favorite,” Garp says, in the tone of voice he uses when he thinks someone’s stupid. Ace normally rears up in anger when he uses that tone, but this time, what Garp said has him blinking at him in shock.
Ace says blankly, “I’m his favorite?” Well, Ace guesses, it does make sense – Luffy doesn’t really have anyone else that stays with him. Garp’s never here, Dadan doesn’t really care about them, or at least not enough to stay around them all the time, and Makino- well. She’s amazing, but she can’t be there all the time. Still, though- “Why?”
This time, Garp turns around fully to look at Ace. “Why?” He asks incredulously. “You’re his brother and he loves you, duh.”
Ace’s brain stalls.
