"Um, excuse me," Xiao finally says, clearing his throat awkwardly. "Are you from—did you by any chance see—"
And the person turns—which he should have expected, in all honesty—and it's a struggle to keep his dignity. Xiao squeaks as the rest of them comes into view, unable to drag his gaze away. There's another tattoo on their chest, glowing teal—the same shade as Venti's scales—and Xiao won't look down, he won't—he fixes his gaze on the person's face, round cheeks and green eyes and…
And a bright, familiar smile. "Liebchen?"

Summary
A coquettish male Miqo'te Bard strikes out into the world and discovers he's the Warrior of Light. The events of Carteneau have left him with a strange affliction that causes him to receive songs from almost everyone and everything he touches, but he still enjoys being the hero because other people's smiles make him happy. When he finally decides to take something for himself, however, he realizes that smiles can lead to sadness as well, and struggles with reconciling the path of the Warrior of Light with that of the person underneath.
Goes from 1.0 all the way to post-Shadowbringers. Rating applies to Chapter 8, which also contains the story's epilogue.

G'raha turns his arm to regard the arcane eye painted there. The deep hue is stark against the azure of his body. "I shall wash them off in the morning, but for now I enjoy being able to see my old markings again."
"You seem more upset than anything," you counter cautiously, the unspoken question evident in your voice.
"’Tis difficult to put into words. Memory is not always without mourning, and mourning is not always an act of grief." G'raha looks down into his tea, tracing a crystal finger along the curve of the ceramic mug. The faint scratching sound it makes is nearly deafening. "Tis good to remember how it felt to fly before I clipped my wings."
