Summary
“The conservatory believes suffering produces excellence,” Wednesday said. “It’s a theory.”
“Do you believe it?”
Wednesday paused, considering. Years ago, she would have said “yes” without hesitation. She had been raised on the gospel of beautiful pain: that art required sacrifice, that comfort was the enemy of transcendence, that the greatest musicians played from wounds that never fully healed.
But that was before.
Before the diagnosis, before the silence crept in and swallowed everything she knew about suffering and art and meaning.
“I believe,” Wednesday replied carefully, “that suffering happens regardless of what we believe.”
Wednesday Addams is a deaf cello prodigy, faking her way through Nevermore Conservatory.
Until Enid arrives—the most persistent person Wednesday has ever failed to drive away—and the cellist discovers that music might still exist in the space between vibration and touch.
But falling in love with someone who dances like the rising sun becomes infinitely more complicated when Enid’s body begins to betray her too.

Summary
The weight of it almost broke her, sending her spiraling, shattering her to tiny black pieces as she felt Enid’s dead fingers around her neck in every nightmare, and she threw herself into the investigation of Lois, of Willow Hill, anything to prevent it from happening. In the end, she messed up again. Made everything worse, just like her mother told her she would. Couldn’t even keep Enid safe.
Wednesday is traumatised, plagued by nightmares and flashbacks, her guilt and mistakes weighing her down like a pile of rocks thrown into water to make a corpse sink to the bottom. She hurts herself as punishment.
It’s a shame she forgot about Enid’s keen sense of smell.

Enid suspects that her girlfriend self-harms. The thought breaks her heart, but Wednesday admits nothing. She feels lost and asks advice from her closest friends. Now everyone is worried.
As it turns out, they are right to be.

“Wednesday,” said Father, “have you ever thought about love?”
“Of course,” I said stiffly to Father. “I have thought about everything.”
“Everything,” he said, and for some reason, he smiled. I felt a fierce ache in my chest when I looked at him. I think it was fondness. “Of course you have, my little storm cloud.” He folded his hands over his stomach, “One of the things about love,” he said, and then, “two things.” He held up one finger. “The first is that it is very hard to recognize sometimes when one feels it.”
“If I ever had the misfortune to feel it,” I said, “I’m sure I would recognize the intrusive emotion immediately and eradicate it.”
“Two,” he said, holding up another finger, and continuing on as if he hadn’t heard me, “One of the hardest things about love is recognizing that your querido - or querida - may not feel it the same way you do.”
Enid calls Wednesday twice a week on summer vacation - Wednesdays and Saturdays. Wednesday absolutely does not wait around for these calls.

Summary
After the night that Wednesday and Enid defeat the Hyde, Crackstone, and Laurel Gates, the students are sent home early so the school can make repairs and Principal Weems can recover from nightshade poisoning. Enid has just one small problem: her family is pissed she ruined her older brother's graduation (even though Nevermore is scrambling to make new plans for graduation as they speak), and is now refusing to pick her up.
Wednesday scoffs. "You can come home with me. Trying as my family can be, you'll be better off. I should warn you that you'll be asked to regale your heroic tale a million times, however."
Well, that solves the small problem. Now she just has the bigger problem of being a Blood Moon wolf.
