Summary
Northmoor, of course, he simply tries not to dedicate more neuronal activity to than he needs to. After ten years, interacting with him is just a necessary problem. Like…going to the dentist. Or, on a bad day, like getting a flat tire. inconvenience, indifference, intolerance, animosity, whatever – they’re all the same to Ash, and he’s learned to not spend too much time analyzing any of it. He and the Director coexist - that’s all, and that’s fine.

He was walking in an underground cistern, emptied of water so it was left as a forest of concrete pillars. He knew he’d seen this before, but couldn’t remember where. The lingering puddles seeped into his shoes, made his socks squish uncomfortably with every step, and somehow he knew that walking was pointless. Every direction was the same.
