Summary
Shane heard a strangled shout tear free from his mouth, and then his body was moving without his brain’s input. He flew across the ice, ripping his gloves off and reaching for Ilya’s throat. He wrapped his fingers around the warm skin, feeling the flow of blood pulse harder with each beat of Ilya’s heart. His eyes raced across Ilya’s face, desperately looking for a sign that his boyfriend was still with him. Ilya’s eyes were wide and glazed, staring past Shane instead of at him. His face was losing color rapidly, turning a sickly shade of white that mirrored the ice beneath him. His mouth was open, loose and slack, mouthguard still jammed into his upper jaw. Shane watched in terror as Ilya grew limper in his arms.
——————————————————
During a Boston-Montreal game, Ilya's neck is cut by a skate, and Shane is forced to witness the love of his life bleeding out on the ice in front of him. All of the plans they have made seem to be slipping away before his eyes, right when they were so close to finalizing Ilya's transfer to Ottawa. As they race against the clock to save Ilya's life, Shane reckons with the secrets they have been forced to keep and fears that they might never get to live their truth out in the open.Bookmarked by Stardust963

Summary
Shane likes to believe that he knows all of Ilya by now.
After their years of tiptoeing around one another, when he’d spent any moment that he could studying every inch of the Russian who’d managed to somehow slip through the walls he’d spent his entire life building up.
He’s seen Ilya heartbroken. He’s also seen Ilya so overcome with happiness that he can’t help but be swept away in it too.
He’s watched the sun rise over Ilya’s face. His lips tugging up into a smile as he watches Shane walk into a room, or his eyes creasing through gentle chuckles as they curl up together on Yuna and David’s couch, listening to Shane’s parents drop endless hints about the potential of weddings or grandchildren in the future.
He’s seen every emotion that he’d thought was possible with Ilya.
Which is why he’s so concerned when he finds one day that he suddenly doesn’t recognise the version of Ilya standing in front of him at all.
--- or ---
Shane gets home from practice one day to find Ilya acting differently. Things spiral until Shane's worst nightmare plays out in front of his eyes as Ilya suffers a seizure at their home.

Summary
"Rozy," Brian, the team doctor says, "talk to me, buddy. That puck clipped you pretty good, how’s the pain?"
Ilya blinks. He clenches his jaw against a wave of nausea. He rests his cheek on the ice, and the cold helps a little.
"Bad. Very bad." He swallows. "Is Shane here?"

Summary
It wasn’t like he had to throw up, Ilya reasoned. It was just a bad habit, and he quit those all the time. But he was leaving the cottage in two days, and the thought of packing up this life with Shane into his carry-on and flying back to Boston alone was tying him in knots. He was just stressed, and vomiting made him feel lighter. He didn’t need to, though.
Or, a study of Ilya's recklessness and unhealthy coping as a foil to Shane's ED-coded behaviors, where he has his own disordered habits. He has it under control, until he doesn't. This work is fully finished, just updating as I edit :)

Summary
One second Ilya Rozanov is flying down the ice with the wind in his hair and the puck in his control, almost certainly on his way to score the tying goal, and the next, he’s crumpling to the ground. He falls, slides limply until his body cracks against the boards, and lies terribly, unnaturally still.
Getting your bell rung by another player is one thing; it happens. Falling limp and heavy to the ice when no one’s even touched you is another thing entirely.
