"If I might ask, though, what are you doing in the abbey this time of the evening? You weren’t here when I came in to blow out the candles. Are you, perhaps, lost? Do you want me to fetch one of the Fathers?" Carlos asked, stepping forward towards the other.
"Oh! No, no. Please, don’t put yourself to the trouble," the other gushed, waving a hand through the air. Carlos could have sworn he saw a blush rise to the others cheeks. "I’m afraid I often come here after everyone else has gone. It feels more comfortable, to me, in the dark. I’m afraid I walked in just as you were blowing out the last of the candles. I thought everyone was off to bed already. I hadn’t realized anyone was still up."
