The hunger pains didn’t even register as pain anymore. Instead it was almost like a physical sense of accomplishment. Proof that he was paying his penance in whatever way he could. If his stomach didn’t ache with that piercing pain when he went to sleep at night, he hadn’t tried hard enough that day.

Summary
Alphonse is finally reunited with his body, but the long list of foods he's been waiting to try remains mostly untouched. Not eating for years has left him hypersensitive and easily overwhelmed by even mild flavors. What would have been frustrating becomes downright dangerous, as he struggles to eat enough to keep his newly regained body healthy, malnourished as it already is.
Riza... might have some experience with this sort of thing.

Somewhere along the way 'the boys' soon became 'our boys', and Roy Mustang stopped trying to pretend to dislike that.
Or, an AU mash-up (Al's the State Alchemist and Ed's bound to armor) and join the military earlier. There's mild twists, time-skips, and no homunculi as we know 'em but Father's still about meddling. Riza's got the patience of a Saint and Al's got zero shame asking adults for help. Oh, and nothing ever goes as planned for Edward, including getting his body back.
