“What are you talking about,” Feldspar demands.
“In your next life,” the barbarian repeats as though it’s obvious. “You don’t want to come back as a worm, do you?! …Oh no, what if I come back as a worm…?!”
“Seriously, what are you talking about?”
“The life cycle!”
Feldspar darts his eyes back and forth across the ground thoughtfully even though all he can see is shadows. He’s heard those words before. He can’t quite place where. The thief strains to remember through the fatigue of malnutrition and incarceration. Then it strikes him.
“Are you talking about reincarnation?”
“Hmm,” the barbarian considers the word for a moment. “Is that the word you use for it here?”
“I guess,” Feldspar shrugs again. “Do you remember your past lives?”
“Do you?”
“...Whatever. I don’t believe in that stuff.”
