Ryoji looks up at the same ceiling Makoto was so busy staring at, as if searching for an answer in the infinite void of nothingness. It looks like he finds it.
"I don't think so," Death answers.
"Oh."
A pang of disappointment washes over Makoto. That kind of sucks. He wouldn't have minded staying in some sort of limbo with Ryoji forever. It doesn't sound half bad, actually.

Summary
After spending six years as the Great Seal, Makoto is freed from his duty when Erebus goes quiet and humanity's wish for Death is extinguished. With no duties to fulfill, Death and the Great Seal take advantage of the opportunity and spend a precious month together on Earth. But any hopes of reconnecting with those they left behind are quickly lost when they realize their friends have been blinded by their wishes, the Sea of Souls is emptying by the minute, and the Fall may be imminent if nothing is done.
