Summary
Testing his luck, he pulled the metal out in one swift motion. It came out easily with a squelch quickly lost in the roar of the dog coming down upon his neck. His body dropped, the metal still clenched between his fingers, teeth pressed into his adams apple and he was sure that if he swallowed it would burst. Once again, there was a pause. This dog didn’t seem very experienced in killing.
“It's okay,” he repeated. The words were hard to get out with the pressure on his neck. “You can bite down.”
The dog’s breath stuttered. It was likely the cold finally got to it. He buried his fingers in the fur just below its head.
“Just leave a little for the other strays. They’ve been good to me.”
---
Severus meets a strange dog out in the woods. Lost and drifting, he attatches himself fully to his new friend. He's given himself a purpose. To live alongside his grim.
---
Sirius Black has dug his own grave, and like the dog he is he can't help digging further.

Summary
Kirk channels his pain by clenching his fist into his pants, but he feels no anger. He couldn’t, not when he knew the kind of fear the child was trying to protect himself with. He lets that connection overtake him, and puts on his most genuine smile. It’s still full of pain and exhaustion, but it’s genuine. It appears as if the child can sense that too. Amazingly, he lowers his gun and stares.
“The only reason I’m still on this ship is to make sure you’re safe. I’m scaring my crew half to death because I can’t stand the thought of leaving you here to die, or at the mercy of the slavers.”
---
After the discovery of a slave ship trying to sneak past the enterprise, Kirk risks his life to beam aboard one Vulcan child. Against his better judgement, he quickly becomes attached and risks his sanity trying to be a father to him. Spock is along for the ride.

Summary
They never spoke of it. Never questioned why neither simply went home to a proper bed. It was easier, they might have said if pressed. More practical during complex cases. Professional dedication.
But there were nights when James would wake to find Severus watching him through half-lidded eyes, gaze unreadable in the dim light. Moments when their hands would rest side by side on the sofa cushion, not quite touching but close enough to feel the heat of each other’s skin. Mornings when James would find himself studying the elegant line of Severus’s throat as he tipped his head back to drain the last of his coffee.

Summary
The war had ended and Sirius finds himself washed ashore in a world he was not ready for.
He was not ready for the war to be over- it had hardly just begun when he had fallen through the Veil.
He was not ready for his friends to be gone, died in battles he had never fought.
He was not ready for Snape to be seen as a hero, posthumously, in his godson's eyes.
But suspicions exist that Snape had not died in the war. Sent on the task to bring him back to face trial, Sirius relishes the opportunity to finally have focus- a mission of his own: bringing Snape to face justice for all his war time crimes.
There was no other reason for Sirius to be hunting Snape.
No other reason at all.
