“So… if last time was just Valentine’s Day ex sex, then this is… what?”
Tim clears his throat from his side of the bed, tugging the blanket a little further up his chest as he runs his hand through his messy hair.
(He tries desperately not to think about how it got this messy).
“Uh…”
Lucy chuckles awkwardly from where she’s staring at the ceiling, ignoring how her knee is pressing into Tim’s naked thigh. Ignoring how the whole room smells of sex. Ignoring how her heart is still racing and her whole body still covered in a thin sheen of sweat.
“It was… a bad decision?” Tim offers.

For moment he wonders where she learned to do this and quietly decides he doesn’t want to know. Maybe they should make this a regular part of their routine; he enjoys shaving much more when she’s around– so close together it would take little to no energy to close the gap between them.

She’s staring at him like he’s everything, and he can’t breathe, he can’t move, he can’t even fucking think as she stares at him like that, her curls falling around her beautiful face, her lips parted, her eyes filled with more love than he’s ever deserved.
“Lucy,” he whispers, his dress shirt clutched tightly in his hand so he doesn’t reach for her.
He doesn’t know what his own expression is, but when Lucy catches his gaze her own breath stutters, her chest expanding as she takes a shuddering breath in.
“Tim.”
Her voice is quiet, soft and full of everything neither of them have been able to say since he walked away from her that fateful night.
They’ve talked some, and she’s wearing his necklace again.
But they haven’t talked about this.
He takes a step toward her, his eyes not leaving hers, and he’s about to reach for her when her lips part and she whispers,
“We shouldn’t.”

It’s sweet, but Lucy wants nothing to do with it.
“I know what I want,” she says firmly. “I know what I have wanted for a long time.”
Tim licks his lips, chasing both the taste of her and the taste of tequila.
“Yeah?” he asks, his voice softer than she ever imagined it could be. “And what’s that?”
Lucy watches him for a long moment, her heart pounding in her chest. She’s drunk… but she’s not so drunk that she won’t remember this in the morning.
“You,” she whispers, and it’s like a dam breaks in Tim as that one, single word washes over him.

Summary
For a moment, all Tim can do is stare at her.
She’s practically glowing under the fairy lights outside the food trucks, and he is caught in her orbit, his heart heavy in his chest and his throat thick with everything he wants to say but isn’t sure is appropriate yet.
Eventually, though, higher brain functioning returns, and he clears his throat as he sits back and takes a slow sip of his beer.
“I know you didn’t do it for me,” he murmurs, because if today has taught him anything, it’s that honesty is the best policy, always.
