“Here,” Marya gestures to her makeshift operating table. “Lay down.”
Ludmila has to bite back the urge to say something dumb — buy a girl dinner first, or how forward of you, Marya.
Whatever expression slips through gives her away, because Marya chuckles, shaking her head.
“Behave.” Marya warns, and it shoots a bolt of want down Ludmila’s spine. Marya tries to sound stern but Ludmila can see the smile underneath.
“Okay, okay.” Ludmila throws both hands up, and smirks. She hops up onto the table. “But you thought it too”
Marya doesn’t raise to Ludmila’s bait, but she does bring the flat of her palm to Ludmila’s chest and guides her back onto the workbench.

Willow slowly turns to face them. Her expression doesn’t soften. “She’s dead,” she says, like she’s reciting a fact. “Warren shot her. Through the window. She died in my arms.”
Buffy’s breath catches. “God, Will… I’m so—”
“She was dead,” Willow cuts her off. “But I fixed it.”
Something in her tone makes Buffy go cold.
“You… fixed it?”
“She’s back. Her skin’s warm. I put her back together. I can do that. I did that.” Willow looks at her own hands like they’re the only things tethering her to this plane. “I can fix things now. I don’t have to wait around and hope anymore. I can do something.”—

“And what you do?” Jackie retorts, but it’s breathy and her eyes dart down to Shauna’s lips.
“No. But I deserved him.” Shauna deserves rough and clumsy in the passengers seat of a dirty car. “But Jackie, you deserve something soft and wonderful.
For a second Shauna is sure she’s fucked this whole thing up, then Jackie speaks.
“You said you would’ve been softer with me. Show me.”
The plane doesn’t go down. The team makes it to nationals. The truth comes out, and eventually Shauna and Jackie make out.

The moment the words leave her lips, Elphie smiles at her one more time. Glinda can see her bottom lip is trembling and her hands are shaking where they hold the edge of the door. "Well, Olethra is a sweet girl," Marya finally says, when they have tired themselves out with their banter. She has not been able to stop smiling the entire while. Her cheeks ache from it. "The two of you are adorable. You will do great things together."
She watches as Ludmila bites her lip, furrowing her brows. "You think so?"
"I know so," Marya assures. And then she adds, with a wink, "Soon enough, you will not even need me anymore!"
Marya expects— well, a playful response. Laughter, perhaps. Or Ludmila shoving at her again, threatening to push her off the bed.
What she does not expect, though, is dead silence. Thick as smog, it engulfs the air of the room with a swiftness that stuns her, choking up her throat.
(Or: Finally reunited, Ludmila proves to Marya how much she wants her; needs her.)
