She is sent with Ensign Lorilee, temporal agent in training, to investigate the destruction of the freighter Mercury and the vanishing of its Captain and First Officer.
It is there at a time rift she makes first contact with an entity that calls itself Q and gets stranded upstream on a space station called Deep Space 9. -

Only that he's no captain, Picard is not his friend and he knows very much how much you find him interesting. -
