Summary
“I’m coming,” Derek calls, shrugging on a sweater. The first few days of March had been warm, but the weather has turned in the last week - winter's last ‘fuck you’ - and Derek is expecting the icy blast as the warm air rushes out the front door. “What—” His breath freezes in his throat.
“Hey there, Sourwolf.”
Stiles is standing on the front porch— Derek’s front porch— his right hand waved in a half wave.
“Stiles?” Derek almost takes a step back. “What are you— how?”
~
Two years after Derek runs from Beacon Hills, Stiles turns up at his front door looking for his own escape. What follows is a story of adventure, healing and finding a place to call home.

“Wait,” Chimney wanders over, expression set in disbelief. “You’re watching Chris while Eddie’s away?”
“Uh, yeah?” Buck’s brow furrows in confusion.
Face breaking into a grin, Chim shakes his head. “But then who’s watching you?” he teases ducking Buck’s friendly swat.

Summary
“Guess who's got the definitive proof that your brother and my colleague are dating,” Chim crows as he crosses the foyer to meet Maddie.
“That’s such a weird way to word it,” Maddie tells him, leading the way inside. “What’s wrong with calling them Evan and Eddie?”
“Well, first of all,” Chim jokes. “You are the only one who calls Buck, Evan. It just feels weird in my mouth. Who even is this Evan person?” He ducks away from Maddie’s playful shove. “Second of all, it’s more dramatic this way,” Chimney says. “And gossip this juicy needs a little drama.”

Maddie is convinced Buck and Eddie are dating... or maybe she's just projecting.

“I could cover for you,” Buck offers quickly, already rising from his seat to put his bowl in the sink. “I’m back at my place, but I could probably be there in thirty minutes.”
“Actually—” Eddie hesitates again. “I was hoping you could go get Chris from school and watch him for me. It’s just— I can’t afford to give up the shift right now.”

“Truth or dare?”
"Really?"
“What? Would you rather play I spy?” Buck asks, rolling his eyes. “I spy something brown...surprise! It’s the shitty panelling in the elevator we’ve been trapped in for an hour.”

Summary
Buck hates it when he and Eddie are working alternating shifts, but he’s been stuck on B shift the last three days while Thompson’s out with a badly sprained ankle.
On the one hand, it’s easier than ever to hide their relationship when they’re not working together, but on the other, work just isn’t the same without Eddie with him. -

“Hey, if uh,” the words stick in his throat. “If you need some time, to tell Chris, I don’t mind pretending for a day or two.” Buck’s heart is pounding so loud in his chest, he wonders if Eddie can hear it too. “Just until you do.”
Eddie laughs, tipping his head back against the seat.
“That is, without a doubt, the stupidest idea you’ve ever come up with...” he says, still chuckling.
“Ha, yeah,” Buck plasters a grin on his face. “Pretty stupid.”
“You know what, I’m in,” Eddie says, regaining his composure. “Just for a day or so. I’ve got the rest of the parent teacher interviews tomorrow night and then I’ll sit Chris down and explain it was a misunderstanding.”

Summary
Maddie blinks, her heart dropping into her stomach. That's Evan’s address.
“We have one male, late twenties with a concussion and a suspected fractured collarbone, and a second male with a possible fractured ankle.”
Suddenly, she recognises the voice.
"Eddie?”
There’s a moment of silence, then a muffled, "I think I got Maddie.”
AKA, the firefam responds to a rather embarrassing call at Buck’s place.

Shuffling slowly towards the front door, Stiles throws it open.
“What?”
Stiles’ brain short circuits - just a little - because standing in front of him is Derek Hale.
He hasn’t seen Derek in almost four years and now he’s standing on his doorstep, in shorts and a tank top with a canvas bag clutched in one hand.

Stiles’ eyes go wide at the sight of Derek, his heart rate kicking up a notch.
“Excuse me.” He pushes his chair back from the table, the legs screeching against the floor. “I have to go make a scene.”
He stands slowly and calmly walks from the restaurant. He doesn’t go far, just paces the strip of pavement outside with his phone to his ear.
“What the fuck dude?”

Summary
“You’re lucky to have found a mate like Stiles.”
“Mm,” Derek nods, eyes following Stiles back towards the house. The words sink in and he freezes, mind frantically replaying every interaction he’s had with Stiles over the last few days, wondering how they could have possibly given her that impression.
Stiles is- he’s Stiles. He’s funny and smart and kind and— they’re not mates, no matter how much Derek might wish otherwise.
