Bruce realises it then with a sudden startle, all the anger and frustration that had been building up over the last couple days freezing under his skin, blood cold.
"You're trying to make me angry…" Bruce carefully says out loud, all the pieces of the puzzle finally coming together, watching the way Jason's shoulders tense at the shift in tone from angry to a calculative calmness, "On purpose?"
Jason's previous expression, one filled with twisted amusement at Bruce's apparent annoyance is immediately replaced with something tragic. His blue eyes grow wide and fearful, and Bruce watches in delayed understanding as the boy takes a fearful step back.
(Jason's change in behavior is cause for concern. Fortunately, Bruce is a pretty good detective — most of the time.)

“Jon,” Bruce shook his head. He tried to put himself in the child’s shoes, bringing up a hand to massage his head, the painkillers Alfred insisted on taking weren’t having an effect yet. “Jon, what’s the matter?”
The boy cried a few seconds more as he struggled to catch a breath that let him speak. “My tu— stomach.” He revealed.
Bruce’s anxiety heightened. “Your stomach hurts?”
“Uh huh,” Jon replied, sounding every bit of a child he was.

“You want to know what’s wrong?” His voice was low, edged with bitter sarcasm. “What’s wrong is that I’ve got to waste one day a week at probation and now another in some workshop for alcoholics. Me. The guy who hates drinking.” His laugh was harsh, humorless. “What’s wrong is I’m a year behind, drowning in assignments and make-up work. At this rate, I won’t even have time for karate anymore —the only thing that actually keeps me sane.”
He took a step closer, voice tightening like a screw. “What’s wrong is my new probation officer’s a SOB who’s making my life hell.”

Summary
After the disaster that was living on his own, Kon isn't surprised that Superman felt the need to step in. What he wasn't expecting, however, was to be taken to Ma and Pa Kent where he's supposed to live from now on. Having "parents" and getting a civilian identity sounds foreign to him, but it can't be too hard, right? For the first time in his relatively brief life, Kon will just have to learn who he is besides Superboy, with the Kent's determined to help him. Old habits are challenged and personal discoveries are bound to be made.
