Summary
Essek had a problem. A human shaped, red haired, annoyingly sharp problem that had been tormenting him ever since Caleb had become a grad student at the Marble Tomes Conservatory.
His solution to that problem, in hindsight, had been incredibly foolish. But how was he to know that after hours of searching the internet for the perfect video that he could take himself in hand to, letting himself imagine that he was the lavender skinned tiefling between the anonymous pale thighs — he would meet Mollymauk in all his ostentatious glory the next evening, wrapped around Caleb’s shoulders.
What follows is Essek’s slow descent into the chaos that is the Mighty Nein’s friend group, and the tangle of feelings that comes from having a crush on your brightest student who you have watched be thoroughly railed by a very very pretty tiefling online.

He closed his eyes and waited for the familiar shuffling of belts and pants dropping, using the moment to stop his hands from the nervous shaking they were doing. It’s not like this was the first time he had done this, and he was sure it wouldn’t be his last. He had just gotten a little spoiled traveling with a group.

Snipit of a larger au I'd like to write where Caleb (Bren) was the mage helping Lucien preform his ritual, only to run into Mollymauk two years later. After realizing Molly has not memories of his past life, Caleb see an opportunity to keep the Tomb Takers off their trail, while also securing an ally within the Mighty Nien.
This is a section from the first chapter. If this does well (gets literally any comments) I'll write and post the rest of the roughly four to five chapter long fic. It will get to romance but like in a weird and messy way, promise.

Beau begins by sighing exasperatedly, which is typically not ideal for selling a pitch, but what the fuck, right? “I wanted to ask you,” she says, carefully now, “If you would maybe be interested in working with the Cobalt Soul. In a more, uh, official capacity. Like with a salary and everything, or whatever.”
There is a silence which is somehow worse than the silence that they were sitting in before. Essek makes a small sound that must be unconscious, sort of like a death rattle. Beau didn’t know such an undignified noise was in his repertoire.
