Summary
Katherine Pulitzer can't seem to get anything right: she can't make up for the loss of her sister, Lucy, and her father doesn't approve of her fledgling reporting career. When her father sends her away to his country estate, Katherine is sure she'll be bored out of her mind. What she isn't prepared for is the strange pull she feels toward the land and the handsome boy who lives on it. With Jack Kelly, Katherine feels seen for the very first time. Little does Katherine know that Jack isn't necessarily hers for the taking. Based on the Ballad of Tam Lin.

Summary
All that Jack Kelly wants is time and space to create, and what better place to escape to than the Metropolitan Museum of Art? But Jack doesn't expect to find a hidden society of people who've had the same idea, and he certainly doesn't expect the mysterious blue-eyed boy in their charge. Loosely based on Stephen Sondheim's Evening Primrose.

Summary
"What's he like? Your pa?"
Don’t say too much about your father, Francis. We had to pull some strings to get you placed here, and you won’t be treated kindly if everyone knows about his indiscretions.
Jack didn’t know what an indiscretion was, but he knew he didn’t want to make things harder for himself.
“He’s a—a cowboy.”
“No kiddin’?” Charlie sounded excited. Jack was special, just like he was.
-- It's Jack's first day at the orphan asylum, and Crutchie is happy for the company.

Summary
Katherine had forgotten, of course. That it was Christmas Eve. But the first Christmas they were married, Jack had asked Katherine if they could go to the little stone church in his old neighborhood. My ma used to take me when I was little, and I—well, it’s like havin’ a piece of her. It’s hard on Christmas, y’know.
After a devastating loss, Jack and Katherine try to find solace on Christmas Eve.

Summary
And Snyder didn’t stop. He hit Davey again and again and again. Eventually, Davey went silent. His body crumpled at Jack’s feet. Snyder smiled.
Jack stood by, helpless. He opened his mouth to scream, but this time, there was no sound. There was no air. And it was so dark.
He’d known as soon as he woke, panting and covered in sweat, that he was going to take Pulitzer’s deal.

Summary
Race should have known better than to bring up Joseph Pulitzer. Oh, yes, Pulitzer had offered Jack that cushy position as a political cartoonist; and, all right, he’d looked the other way when Jack and Katherine had started spending time together. But Pulitzer had drawn his line in the sand when Jack and Katherine announced their engagement. He did everything he could to stop the marriage; he threatened Jack’s job and Katherine’s trust fund and any connection to her family. Even though it broke his heart, Jack had tried to offer Katherine an out then. He didn’t want her to suffer or go without on his account. But Katherine had insisted her father was bluffing, and that even if he wasn’t, she’d rather face the world with Jack than remain beholden to Joseph Pulitzer.
Pulitzer hadn’t been bluffing.
...or, how Jack undervalues himself tremendously and has to learn the hard way that he does, in fact, matter. Nothing says Christmas like a good existential crisis!
