Summary
The noise started just before dawn when the surrounding farmers woke up to tend to their livestock. Animals braying in the fields filled the dimly lit hills, acting as a baseline for the loud morning to come.
Next would come the baker and then the blacksmith and only then would other shops begin to open. Dex tapped a stick of charcoal on the edge of his notebook. He’d head into town around that time, dropping off a few of his parents' remedies, picking up more chicken feed, and checking on Monsieur Elwin’s backdoor hinges. They always seem to creak around this time of year and the older man couldn’t quite reach the upper ones by himself.
Maybe he’d lend Dex some of his alchemy papers…(I return from the grave with a Keefex Beauty and the Beast AU in which I thought way too hard about the worldbuilding.)

Summary
This forest always seemed too quiet.
There was something uncanny about it—the way the leaves lining the path seemed to be made of velvet, how the trees didn’t rustle in the evening air, and how the stones on the path stayed planted on the ground rather than crunching underfoot. They were too shiny as well, like the trail was dotted with smooth river rocks. According to legend, the forest was alive with music and sound if you had the magic to hear it.
The only problem? Dex wasn’t a magic user.
(Sophie and Dex go looking for a fae nobleman to help understand Sophie’s abilities. It’d go a lot smoother if Dex and Fitz could play nice.)

Link had been relatively unbothered by his adventures. That is until he woke up stranded in the middle of the ocean with Marin's last gift. Their infant daughter: Melody.
He should have heeded the Shadow Nightmare’s warning. Forces are stirring. Evil is rising. A nightmare or two will soon be the least of their problems.
He made a promise to Marin to leave his adventurous life as a hero behind to devote himself to his new family however he had no choice but to break that promise when he was coerced into waking the Windfish. Doing so cost him far more than he was willing to part with. Now, for Melody's sake, he was determined to stick to that promise. Even if eight heavily armed men show up at his door with stories of a shadow that was wreaking havoc across time. There was no way he was ever going to leave Melody's side.
