The ruins of Sky Kingdom were still smoldering.
A figure dressed in long white silks wandered aimlessly through the twisted wreckage warped by the lethal caress of flames that had died down to pulsating embers long ago. Flurries of ashes filled the air, drifting lazily toward the ground like phantom snowflakes.
The figure paused for a moment and turned around, surveying the crumbled heaps that were once buildings with a patient smile on his face, purple eyes glimmering faintly in the firelight.
“Beautiful, isn’t it?”

It’s not the fact that he ordered nine shots of espresso, specified he wanted the cup exactly half full, dumped in three packets of salt, stirred, handed it back, and asked for the remaining space to be filled with cold water. It is not even that he didn’t give a word in explanation before downing half of it in one go, sticking in a bendy straw, and very politely saying, thank you.
It’s that the entire time, his eye contact hadn’t faltered even once.
“Oh my god,” Dazai says to Sigma, almost-flustered, “what the fuck is wrong with him.”
///OR: Dazai is a cafe barista. Fyodor attends the nearby university. Their lives fall into place with one another.
