Summary
The stars live and the planets are still around. What's killing everyone is a mysterious disease that is confined to the stations of Eden and the Consolidation of Iron. Filament station is the lead in research, which doesn't appease the religious Eden who believes the disease to be The Rapture from God in order to feed their garden and The Tree. A mission to steal resources from Filament goes wrong when Simon realizes what the mission was actually about. Sabotage. In the event of an attack on Filament, the station suffers severe damage and lands on the planet known as 4546B. A world teeming with creatures of the deep and answers to the disease. Simon has to figure out how to move about on this strange alien planet and somehow get off, even if it means a life in prison and sickness.
This is the first of the Subnautica AU series. Please be patient with me. I promise there will be eventual bloodymary in this series, but I need to get through certain areas first. This will all make sense, I promise.

Ryland looked down at his clipboard, where he had written a reasonable script, supplied earlier that day by Adrian. Unfortunately, the moment his eyes landed on the words, his brain supplied only terrible ways to say them.
He chose the worst one.
“I need flowers with prominent reproductive structures.”
The man went completely still.
Ryland could feel his soul attempting to leave his body.
“For a plant anatomy lab,” he added quickly. “For my students. Middle school students. Not–” He cut himself off, because there was simply no end to that sentence that would improve his situation. Instead, he just weakly smiled, and added “Science.”
