  Summary

  “Why are you here?” Rodrick asked, fingers drifting across the pink shag rug that was trying to conceal a hard dormitory floor. He looked up at Regina, sitting on her bed and adjusting a ring on her pinkie finger. The fluorescent light cast odd shadows on her face.

  “It’s a long story,” said Regina, sighing the words like she had a hundred times. Top student, beautiful, wealthy. This is not what anyone would have predicted for her. “And I don’t want to tell it.”

  Rodrick shifted on the floor. He understood that. His story was pretty long too. “Well,” he began, catching her eye, “I’ll be anxiously awaiting it whenever you’re ready to tell me.”
