Summary
Not only had he brought Rapunzel back, but he’d saved her life. A heroic feat, and one completely unbefitting of him. Eugene wasn’t sure he was even capable of growing into those footsteps he’d set for himself, no matter how much time he’d be given. A lifetime worth of growth wouldn’t shape him into a person worthy of consideration.
“Is that so?” asked the Queen, though instead of cutting through the tension, it only added to it. A million expectations, dozens of other accomplishments that would be attributed to him by association. He’d saved a life, had traded his own for that of the Princess, and would now have to answer to her parents. And they would find out that it was a one time thing, that he hadn’t done it because he valued her status as royalty but because he’d found something worth living for in her, because he’d realised that the world needed more people like her, and no matter what he said, it wouldn’t land. He didn’t have the grace to wrap it up nicely; whatever he could think of would be dropped at their feet, clumsy like a boy.

Or: For the first time in a long time, Eugene feels completely out of his depth. He deals with it the same way he’s dealt with all things, until now.

"Rapunzel...?" He slowly asked her as she stared in disbelief at him. What? Was his head completely reshaped or something?
"Eugene..." Rapunzel still stared in utter disbelief. She slowly reached out her hand like he was a scared animal. She brushed her fingers along the strands of hair in front of his face.
He softly grabbed her hand and held it was his. He pulled out his absolutely, incredible, charming, smile that he was quite proud of, but Rapunzel only seemed to be focused on what was on top of his head.
"What's wrong?" He asked her, now with genuine worry in his voice.
He then ran a hand through his hair. When the flicker of shiny bright gold strands danced is the corner of his vision; he suddenly has many thoughts go through his mind.
Or, the power of the sun can transfer with even the slightest drop.

“I’m a grown man,” Odysseus grunts, trying (and failing) to pry Hermes’ hands off.
“And I’m thousands of years old! My little baby, that’s what you are.”

or; Hermes is sent to inform Odysseus that he has been granted permission to return home. Odysseus thinks that, once he's set sail, it'll be the last he'll see of the messenger. However, what he fails to realise is that, when earning the interest of an Olympian, that favour comes with a heavy price. Apparently, in this case, it means Hermes sticking around to see how long it takes before Odysseus throws himself into the water for some peace and quiet.Bookmarked by Tigridias
