Summary
An angel and a demon walk into The Muppet Theater.
Comedy ensues.
~~~
“Well, we’re the ones with the tickets,” Crowley said, holding up his own ticket as proof.
The two old men looked at each other. “...When was the last time we got actual tickets?” said the one on the right. The one on the left shrugged.
Crowley grit his teeth.
Aziraphale did not particularly care for the direction this was heading, so he intervened. “Oh, not a problem at all, gentlemen. Not to worry,” he said to the apparent regulars with a very polite smile. “You can sit in your usual seats, and we can just use these seats!” He gestured to two identical theatre seats that he had just miracled into existence, along with the necessary additional space in the box.
Summary
Madame Tracy is mostly enjoying her life in retirement, but due to certain events, she now feels the need to exact a bit of petty revenge.
Her plan requires summoning a demon.
You'll never guess which demon shows up.
“You do know that letting pretty much any demon other than me out of a summoning circle is a really, really bad idea, right?”
She huffed and gave him a very condescending look. “I didn’t get to be my age by being a fool.”
“Mm. Fair enough.” He made a satisfied little hum as the bindings around him eased, and he delicately stepped out of the circle. “Yeah, that’s better,” he sighed, and he shook out his arms and stretched his neck.
“Now, to business!” Madame Tracy said. “Come have a seat, and I’ll get you all filled in. Would you like some tea?”
It all came down to petunias, apparently.
Aziraphale is very certain that his best friend couldn't possibly want to be more than friends.
Aziraphale is wrong.
They are adorable, awkward teenagers.
CW for mild homophobia and fat-phobia, but don't worry, the bad guy gets what he deserves for that.
Summary
Crowley glanced at him and immediately looked away, his upper lip curling into a sneer.
But Aziraphale had expected that. “Crowley—”
“That’s not me,” he spat.
Aziraphale hadn’t expected that. “...What?”
“That’s. Not. Me,” the former demon repeated, grinding the words out. “I’m not Crowley. Not anymore.”
“...I see,” Aziraphale said. “May I ask what you are calling yourself now?”
Summary
The events of an entirely ordinary day for one particular police station in London towards the beginning of summer in 2019.
~ ~ ~
Lonnie Clarke was talking to a lunatic.
To be fair, that wasn’t really unusual. It was a standard part of police work.
This particular lunatic was a special sort of insane, though. Crazy like a fox, this Mr. Fell. Or, just absurdly lucky.
Clarke was just finishing up with him — confirming his contact information, thanking him for his time, and so on — when an entirely different and more familiar lunatic came swaggering in with their hands cuffed in front of them. “OI! Who sent a rookie to pick me up all by herself? That’s hazing, ‘s what that is. Thought you lot were above all that.”
Ladies and gentlemen, A.J. Crowley was in the building.
If you work in animal control long enough, you’ll end up with some stories to tell.
If you work in animal control in London long enough, you’ll end up with some stories to tell about The Old Serpent.
The Old Serpent is a black snake with a red belly and yellow eyes, and there are countless stories from people who have been called out to rescue this snake from all sorts of situations, usually mundane, but some incredibly bizarre. I may as well tell you what I can now, so you’ll at least have some idea of what you’re getting into when it happens.
Summary
For the first time in more than six thousand years, Aziraphale gets to hear from every single member of his platoon, in the form of their handwritten notes for him.
Crowley gets to be included in the experience. In fact, Crowley is a lot more included than he was really prepared to be.
(Don't mind me; I'm just sneaking in one more installment of this series before Season 2 drops and I have to start tagging for canon divergence!)
He shyly met Crowley’s gaze again. “I wonder how many of them have known all along,” he murmured.
“I wonder how many others know,” Crowley said dryly. “I mean clearly anyone who does know has been keeping it secret too, or just didn’t care, but if your side caught us…”
“Former side. Although my platoon will always be mine. Or ours, I should say,” Aziraphale said proudly. “But yes, I suppose you might have a secret ‘fan club’ or two in Hell that you don’t know about.”
“Slightly terrifying idea,” Crowley grumbled.
Summary
A demon could get in real trouble, doing the right thing…
Crowley: A demon who did not so much fall as bungee jump. Having a soft spot for humans is a major failing in a demon, and heaven knows he’s not as evil as perhaps he should be. They really do know, even if Crowley doesn’t.
So when Crowley unexpectedly ends up in Heaven, it’s very much a case of “F your Forgiveness” as he tries desperately to get back down where he belongs again, with a little help from Aziraphale of course.
And yes, I made Aziraphale, Crowley, and even Gabriel bitmojis. At first just for the hell of it while chatting plot with friends, and then I realised that there are some weirdly pertinent pre-made poses available which fit the narrative, so what the heck. I flung them in. Just for this fic as a one-off thing. Not going to do it with another one though.
9 chapters, 24k words, story complete.
With thanks to TogetherAgain for random brainstorming and support, plus many others for ideas of some of Crowley’s doomed plans, including Bowonnie, Elwyst, Crowley_Kitten, Jenna P. And also to Raechem for beta reading.
Summary
Aziraphale has been kept apart from his platoon for millennia.
It's about time that changed.
CWs: Depiction of 1-3 panic attack(s) (it's kinda vague?). Brief discussion of opioid addiction/overdose. Brief discussion of toddlers being very very messy. Also, Aziraphale finally figures out he's been emotionally abused for six millennia. Look, there's a LOT of emotions in this one. You may want tissues.
“Oh, here, my dear. Come sit down,” Aziraphale murmured. He wiped Merzhaz’s tears once more and turned him to lead him towards the sofa, and Crowley felt himself tense as Merzhaz looked at him for the first time.
His face lit up. “Oh good, you’re here, too!” he said, and he stepped out of Aziraphale’s embrace with his hands up at about his shoulders. “Do you do hugs?”
Crowley sputtered. Behind his shades, he actually blinked. He didn’t know how he’d expected Merzhaz to react to his presence, but it definitely hadn’t been that.
Summary
After six thousand years, it's easy to assume they know everything about each other.
The truth is, there are some things even Crowley doesn't know about Aziraphale. There are some secrets that have never been spoken between them.
After all, sometimes the only way to bear the pain is to bury it deep inside.
Fair warning: Most of this series has been pretty light and fluffy so far, but now it's time for some painful feels.
Crowley sat back in his chair, watching them. “You’re making a habit of that,” he said slowly.
Raphael looked worried. “Of what?”
“Checking in with me,” Crowley said. “Avoiding upsetting him.” He arched one eyebrow. “Trusting my judgment about it.”
Raphael frowned. “Of course I trust your judgment. You know him better than anyone, and you have his best interests at heart. It’d be foolish to think I’d get a more accurate answer anywhere else,” they said. “Is it alright that I check with you?”
“...It’s fine, yeah,” Crowley said, aiming to sound more mild than stunned or confused. “It’s just surprising.” He shifted in his seat. “So what’s this potentially triggering topic?” he asked.
“Aziraphale’s platoon.”
Summary
Sometimes, cities are destroyed. It is never an easy thing to bear witness to.
It never seems to get any easier.
But not all is lost. And sometimes, just knowing that is enough.
“It’s all a bit too familiar, isn’t it?” he said, his voice quiet and thick and huskier than usual.
Aziraphale let out a breath he hadn’t realised he was holding. “Far too familiar,” he agreed.
They were both staring straight ahead, but putting their backs to the destruction didn’t mean they couldn’t still see it blazing harshly in their minds.
