“That’s not—This was different.” He looked away. “It was you. I know it.”
Aerith sighed. “Cloud—” She cut herself off when she saw his face. There was something almost desperate in his eyes, and that gave her pause. “Why does that matter?”
He let his gaze drop to the ground. “I… wanna know if it was real,” he said quietly.
Aerith opened her mouth to reply, but closed it without making a sound. A long moment passed with only the crackling of the fire to fill the silence.
“You get them too, right? Visions,” said Cloud in the end.
Aerith hummed noncommittally. It felt strange, to talk about it out loud. She’d never done that before, not even with her mother. Even when the very first dream had left her shaking in her bed as a small child, she’d known not to say anything.Bookmarked by Tomecko

Nanaki nudged his leg. “Grandpa?”
He shook his head, still staring at Aerith. “You—My dear, you’re…”
“What?” she asked, as a knot tightened in her throat.
“You’re not… supposed to be here.”Aerith was supposed to die, but she didn't. Bugenhagen knows, and he knows that she knows. She's afraid to have doomed the world by surviving just a bit longer, but Cloud is there to keep her steady.

“No.” Cloud shakes his head, tries to ignite the engine back to life, it doesn’t make a sound, not a single indication of a spark. “Shit.”
“It broke down?” Aerith asks, and then jumps off the bike to stand next to him, peeking over his shoulder.
“Guess so.” Cloud says between a sigh.
“You sure you just didn’t remember to fill the tank?”
Cloud shakes the heavy deposit, hears a splashing sound coming from the inside. “No, that’s not it.”
