    United in love, yet divided by duty.

    OR

    In a world where love between two men was once a crime, Reynolds bears the emotional scars of a tragic past that forced him to lock away his heart. Now, years later, he finds himself tasked with training Brimsley, a new Queen's Man, whose vibrant spirit and captivating presence threaten to break down the walls Reynolds has erected.

    Servants hardly ever get their grand love story, that is for rich, noble people. Or is it? Caught between their desire for each other and the duty they owe to the monarchy, Reynolds and Brimsley must confront the shadows of their pasts and the dangers of their present.

    Summary

    As the carriage ride stretched on, eventually the sounds of the city began to fade away. The squat brick lodgings turned into lines of trees and the dusty cobblestone became white gravel. Brimsley lifted his gaze from the floor. At the very heart of the grumbling city, a breath of air. He had of course seen St. James Palace before, nearly everyone in London had, but looking at it approaching now, with the promise of a very new kind of life on the horizon, the view was far more spectacular then it had been before. Brimsley could not help the swell of pride as he imagined this grand historic place to be his new home, and made the twentieth promise to himself that day that he would. get. this. job.

    ~~~
    "All afternoon, doing every little chore
    The thought of you stays bright.
    Sometimes I stand in the middle of the floor,
    Not going left, not going right.
    I dim the lights, and think about you.
    Spend sleepless nights to dream about you.
    You said you loved me, or were you just being kind?
    Or am I losing my mind?"
    -Stephen Sondheim
    Charlotte fixes her entire attention upon Reynolds. “The next portion of our discussion is to remain between us, you understand?" she says. "I have decided that I will find Brimsley a wife.”
    Reynolds drops the notebook. His face goes white; he scrambles to retrieve it and returns to his posture with his limbs locked in place, his jaw tight, his breathing rapid.
    Charlotte did not even know he was capable of such emotion.
    OR
    Charlotte decides Brimsley is lonely and needs a wife. Who better to ask for help than his close friend, Reynolds?
    For some reason, this does not go entirely as planned.
    When had lust morphed into something he couldn’t find the words to describe?
    The question startled him; if he had been anyone other than the King’s man, his knees would have given out. But he was the King’s man; years of training and work automatically kicked in, and he continued to stare at the wall opposite him, his figure remaining unremarkable.
    Summary
    Years before Brimsley became the Queen's man, he was a footman serving in the palace. A simple servant like any other with dreams and ambitions of becoming something more.
    People know Brimsley as a friendly, diligent and hard working man.
    That is, most people, save for the King's man, Reynolds. He is the only person who seems to keep finding fault with Brimsley and rightly so, seeing as he, the King's man, holds the highest position amongst the servants and can of course, do whatever he pleases in his free time.
    It just so happens, that Reynolds likes to spend time with Brimsley, though he will never say it, choosing instead to keep it all under the the guise of teaching Brimsley a lesson or two.
    But the truth will always find a way out.
