Summary
Childbirth is possibly the most painful experience that the vast majority of people will ever go through. Let's not diminish that.
Something vaguely on par with it, however, from an emotional aspect, is finding out that you're a father to a less than an hour old baby on a random Saturday when you are not at all emotionally prepared for it, nor physically prepared, and, when all the guilt comes crashing down of not being there for the mother, for missing the birth of your own child, finding out that you need to take the baby home in the next few days.
Meet Evan Buckley.
If you have ever been in that situation, you and him will get along incredibly well.

A year on from Bobby dying, Buck finds out he has a kid. Turns out he's not as ready for it as everyone seems to expect him to be.

Summary
“Those couldn’t’ve been cheap,” Eddie says. “Do we need to talk about your spending habits?”
Buck lets out a soft huff of laughter. “What are you, the flower police?”
“No, no,” Eddie says, shaking his head, his hair brushing against the side of Buck’s face. “If you wanna spend your hard earned money on fancy ass flowers, I’m not gonna stop you.” He nuzzles into Buck’s neck, his stubble scratching against his skin.
“It’s nice,” he says, his voice muffled. “No one’s ever bought me flowers before.”
Buck copes with unrequited love by maladaptive daydreaming, buying Eddie flowers, and lying to the farmers market vendor about his imaginary husband.

Summary
“Hi, I’m Buck, a firefighter with the 136,” for now, the thought crashes through Buck, leaving a sour taste in his mouth. “Uh, you’re both welcome to take a tour with us, if you’d like.” Buck awkwardly scratches at his neck, running a hand through his hair, unsure what else to do, and it spurs the man in front of him to take a large step forward up to Buck’s bed.
“Eddie,” he says, thrusting a hand to him, and Buck reaches over without a second thought. His whole palm feels electric, it smarts and carries the touch of Eddie, Eddie, that Buck feels it completely. He has no idea what’s happening to him. “Edmundo Diaz, but just Eddie though, uh, no one calls me Edmundo. Right. I’m a new nurse here, at Cedars-Senai. Oh –”

When Daniel Buckley lives a little longer, Evan Buckley dies a little more. And this is how Eddie Diaz saves him, a little later on.

Summary
The selfish and yearning parts of Buck tell him to hold Eddie, travel his hands across his ribcage, stop at his back, remind him that they’re both alive and they’re okay and there isn’t fear when they have each other. The sensical, more responsible parts of him only let his words drive the comfort. “You have my back, Eddie. I trust you when I’m in the ring to look after me from the ground, alright? I know you’re there. I know you won’t let me overdo it. Like you said. It’s different now.”
“It is,” Eddie whispers. His eyes jump to all of Buck’s bruises across his abdomen, up until he reaches his face. “Fuck, I could feel all this. Down there.”
Buck flinches. Doesn’t anticipate his sudden admittance, the vulnerability in his fingers that touch feather-light at the contusion on his jaw.
AKA, the boxer AU that is friends to lovers and a slow, slow burn, where Eddie is Buck’s coach, and they both have a lot of healing to do.
