For the most part, gender has little impact on any given story. Naturally, there may be some minor adjustments, but overall, the plot stays the same. Except when a character has a prejudice towards any given gender. Misogyny being the most common of these prejudices.
This is a case study of how Shido's misogyny causes a greater being's grand plan to fall apart right as it starts.
