This is an AU where they both become KID and fight the organisation together. There are clear boundaries that they are childhood friends and not brothers in any way because no thank you. Shinichi always gets some (and by some he means actually thousands and thousands of yen) money given by his mother as a birthday present. This time, he didn't know what to do with such a large sum, but an innocent comment sends him down a spiral and he makes a choice that he'd never consider under normal circumstances (and in his body, of course). Screw it all, his world was crazy enough already, why not add some spice aswell?

He hesitated. It had been ten years but the habit of keeping quiet hadn’t faded. But-
He took a deep breath. “The scene is-” he stopped, voice cracking a bit. Cleared his throat and tried again, leveling his voice out into the neutral tone he used when describing a particularly gruesome set of facts. “The crime scene is the same as mine would have been.” Kogoro’s face twisted, eyebrows winging up into his hairline. Shinichi kept going. “If the poison had killed me. Same clothes, same pose, same head wound,” he tapped the barely perceptible scar on his forehead where the pipe had made contact all those years ago “same everything. It’s identical.”
