“I just introduced myself,” Jayce repeats defensively. He’s not sure what’s wrong with that, but the look on Viktor’s face is withering.
“You gave Singed your name,” Viktor says bluntly, “Offered it up on a platter, and he took it from you. He holds your name now, and he is free to command you as he sees fit.”
Jayce’s brain short-circuits. “What?”
Viktor walks over to one of the many piles of books and picks up one of the thicker, dustier tomes. “Humans are all the same,” he mutters. “You all are obsessed with the arcane and what can be done with it, but you never take the time to learn the rules.”

After Viktor goes missing, Jayce takes matters into his own hands, then accidentally gets himself imprisoned right alongside his partner. Or, the fae-au.

It's flexible, it's discreet, and it's just lucrative enough to bolster his meagre disability benefit into something livable. He's managed to keep a low profile for three years, graduation is in sight, and everything is going smoothly - until his favourite fellow streamer suggests a collaboration.

Summary
The Mage shudders before he can force a proper front of stoicism. Scolds himself, for the slip of weakness, instantaneously. His defenses should not falter this easily. Not now, at least. Not after so long of bearing the weight of letting Jayce go, of carrying the resolve to do so over and over again. This is merely another loss. The final of countless, even. At least, he prays that much to all gods that may be inclined to listen.
This should be the easiest farewell he's ever bidden a Jayce, in theory.
Or,
A universe where the Mage allows himself to want for one more day.

Summary
The ship that arrived on Viktor's island should have been like any other. Another sailor, fated to be transformed at Viktor's hands, then forgotten about to the rest of the world.
He is not expecting Jayce Talis to live, or for the reluctant partnership that follows. It is only until Jayce can find a way off the island, after all, back to his home.

It should not matter. They’re not even a year in. They don’t share an apartment. They’ve barely begun. But sometimes, when Jayce is in the bath and reading aloud with no awareness of his volume, Viktor forget’s that they don’t. The line between yours and mine is already smudged beyond recovery. They share lab keys and research grants and too many nights that blur into dawn. Doctoral candidates with matching lanyards and no time for office hours. Jayce teaches part of a seminar he half-prepares in Viktor's bed. Viktor models quantum diffusion systems at 3 a.m with Jayce’s hand buried in his hair, breath warm at his nape.
They orbit each other like binaries – two distinct bodies locked in shared momentum, gravity-born and holy in their tether. And still, it’s not enough.
Because skin is finite. Desire, however, obeys no such law.

Summary
In the aftermath of a traumatic incident that led him to drop out of university, Jayce Talis packs up everything he knows and moves to a small mountain town in the middle of nowhere to open a flower shop, eager for a fresh start on life.
What he doesn't expect, however, is for fate to send him careening back into the orbit of a familiar face from childhood: Viktor, a remarkable up-and-coming artist who not only works at the adjacent tattoo parlor, but lives directly next door.
But Viktor has ghosts of his own. Walls he'd rather remain hidden behind for the sake of those around him. Neither of them intended for the other to get close.

Summary
When Viktor finally asks why Jayce stayed behind inside the Anomaly with him, Jayce stares at him as though he’s supremely disappointed by the question— as if Viktor has betrayed his own brilliance by asking something so irredeemably stupid. “How could I not? We’re partners.”
Partners, Jayce calls them. Not for the first time, Viktor wonders: Partners in what?

Or: Jayce and Viktor survive the Hexcore, a blizzard, their own bodies, sharing a bed and all the things they’re too afraid to say. Slowly, they put themselves back together— piece by stubborn piece.

Words cannot describe how much of a masterpiece this work is. It feels like the boys have been vivisected on the page - such beautiful narration of the maelstroms in their heads and hearts. I love the way themes are used within and between chapters, like the itemised lists of wants, and Jayce's mental journal entries. I love how the internal monologues of Viktor and Jayce feel so distinct from each other but Star's beautiful writing style stays so consistent throughout.
