“Lan Zhan -,” she says. Pauses.
He waits. She looks so pretty in the amber evening sunlight. Like a postcard.
“I think - you - we, should have - fun, while we’re apart, don’t you?”
Lan Zhan nods, frowning. He definitely thinks that. He would hate for her not to enjoy herself while he’s away.
“You know -,” she says, frowning now. “Experiment -. I -,” she stops, looking a little blank.
Lan Zhan nods, more vigorously, to reassure her. He’s going to have all sorts of new experiences, and he doesn’t want her to feel like she’s just waiting for him to get back, doing nothing. “Of course,” he says.
Lan Zhan goes abroad for a year on a foreign work placement to a farm in East Anglia. He finds a talking parrot, food and tea that does not agree with him, a cacophony of dogs and poultry, and Wei Ying. It's more romantic than it sounds and it's definitely pervier.

Summary
Yibo doesn’t normally notice people, but he notices this one.
He’s on his own so he’s stuck behind the bar, and it’s unusually quiet, so he watches the guy's progress through the lobby. He’s not sure why he’s caught his eye. His height perhaps. Legs that go on for days. Smart, expensive looking clothes. Maybe it’s something about the way he moves. The way he possesses the space around him.
He covers the floor in great strides even though he doesn’t seem at all sure where he’s going. Yibo watches, intrigued, as the guy is distracted by the piano, apparently drawn to it, running his fingers along the fallboard. He lifts it and taps his fingernails lightly along the keys before closing it again.
When he looks up from the piano, he clocks Yibo for the first time, and gives him an amused smile, as if he knows he’s been looking at him. He walks towards him, smile widening.

Summary
Lan Zhan doesn’t know how he feels about the fact that he’s graduated to the ‘teen table’. He’s not even sure he knew it existed. It always seemed to be all grown ups except for the babies’ table before. Still. This is a Jin family event, and the Jins are always the most lavish, and also somehow never get the old traditions quite right. Lan Zhan knows from Uncle that they’re too showy, not refined. He’s never said so, but he can just see it by his face. And now there is a teen table and Lan Zhan is a teen.
He stares at the seating plan and then looks up at Lan Huan. He’s trying to stop his eyes widening, but Lan Huan always knows how he feels. He takes him by the hand as they go and find their table, and Lan Zhan can’t help but squeeze it back tightly. They arrive at a similar time to the other teenagers, all vaguely familiar. Lan Zhan thinks he recognises Jiangs, Nies, a Wen. There’s some awkward shuffling and bumping as they find their places. Lan Zhan is struck with horror when he realises he’s on the opposite side of the table from Lan Huan, but relieved that the spot next to him seems to be empty.
There is *literally* no prize for guessing who’s in the empty seat.

Wei Ying attempts a shrug. “He was - just this - arsehole?” He tries.
Huaisang types quickly into the browser. “Look -,” he says, jabbing his finger towards the monitor.
Wei Ying looks at the search page. Ah. “Queue Arsehole is an - he’s an - actor -,” Wei Ying says, slowly, “hmmm.” He looks at Huaisang. Then back at the screen. Then back at Huaisang. “Sure,” he says. “Sure, sure.”
Wei Ying, manager of the Nies’ Magnificent Descendants Microbrewery, is happily attached to his boyfriend of ten years, fitness fanatic Nie Mingjue, until an incident ties him together with Lan Zhan, young actor and model who is pining for connection. Wei Ying manages to persuade himself he’s forming a perfectly innocent friendship whilst objectively accidentally dating Lan Wangji until things boil over. When he confesses to Nie Mingjue, Mingjue is taken with the idea of inviting Lan Wangji into their relationship. Start counting down from now until Wei Ying implodes...

It turns out to be just one in a series of strange developments. But the case takes a personal turn when Wei Ying wakes up without a voice—and finds that Lan Zhan has lost his grace.
