He knows he can't do this alone anymore. He's ready to ask for help, but now the problem is the only person he trusts to help him is Umino Iruka, and Iruka openly does not like Kakashi one bit.

Summary
Iruka had just gotten used to being the focus of Hatake Kakashi’s incredibly intense attention (and had even allowed himself the fanciful notion that the famous Copy-Nin might like him romantically) when Kakashi was captured after a mission.
Kakashi returned to the village fundamentally changed. Rumors swirled that Kakashi had finally lost it, that he was off active duty, that he was jumping at shadows.
Kakashi was avoiding Iruka, only coming to him in moments of great anguish, but Iruka wouldn’t allow Kakashi to suffer alone, or run away from their blooming relationship.

Summary
I may have to begrudgingly admit to Hatake’s face that he was right, but at least now my conscience is a bit clearer about having my students attend this bloodbath.
"You may have them take the chuunin exam. But make no mistake," I say, and my voice lowers, my pretence of civility almost gone, "I’ll be watching from the tower. The Kazekage kid is still participating, and he kills with no remorse. He’s a jinchuuriki, like Naruto. I don’t need to explain to you how dangerous that can be. So, Hatake, if our students get hurt in this exam, you will have to explain yourself to me."
