    Стив и Баки обеспокоены тем, что русские спецслужбы хотят прибрать Баки себе, заявляя, что его имя Дмитрий Батищев, он же Зимний Солдат. У спецслужб на руках есть свидетельство о рождении и другие документы, подтверждающие серьезность их намерений. Они требуют передачи Баки Барнса, чтобы он предстал перед судом и ответил за свои преступления. Все это ложь, на самом деле они просто хотят единолично управлять Зимним Солдатом. В качестве тактики затягивания переговоров Стив и Баки женятся, чтобы дать американскому правительству время для подачи встречного иска.

    "You say the Warhorse showed up last night," Sam said in tones of profound doubt.

    "Yeah," Steve replied.

    "The Warhorse. The Warhorse of legend. Daelland's Warhorse."

    "The same as the one on the back of the transit card, yes."

    "And he appeared in your living room?"

    Steve eyed the Warhorse, very large and very black and giving him a dubious look out of his strange grey eyes. "He's standing in it right now."

    "Uh huh," Sam said.

    "Hey, I'm not any happier about it than you are."

    Steve's mom had left Daelland long before he was born, following her heart to New York, but she'd raised him on stories of its famous Warhorse. Before she died, he'd promised he'd go back and learn the country she'd come from.

    That was why he was in Daelland. Not so Daelland's legendary Warhorse could appear in his living room. But planned or not that's what had happened—now Steve had to figure out what to do about it.

    Steve is disabled, and lives as a shut-in by choice. As long as he's in his perfectly handicapped-accessible house, he doesn't need any kind of help from anybody.

    Bucky is a college kid with a past he doesn't like to remember, and he's the life of just about any party: Comes early and stays late. Going to class, though? There's really not time for that.

    When Bucky realizes that the lushly landscaped, heated backyard pool abutting his college university's campus is never used, and seems to be attached to an empty house, he starts throwing parties there.

    But … it's Steve's pool. And Steve catches them at it from the beginning.

    He doesn't say anything. He doesn't mind. Watching their antics through a crack in the curtains is the most human contact Steve might ever be likely to have.

    Steve's first meeting with James, his group project partner for his geology class, is a disaster. He knew writing a partner paper wasn't going to be much fun, but he hadn't counted on James being taciturn and standoffish to the point of rudeness. He leaves their first meeting offended and annoyed, wondering if James was short with him because he's Deaf.

    Then he finds out that James is fluent in ASL and decides to give him another chance. Steve has no idea how far that second chance will go.
