“Mr. Stark?” He stammered, blinking to get his eyes to focus. The man stood below him, eyebrows arched and a quizzical expression on his face.
“You alright up there, Pete?” Mr. Stark queried, confusion tingeing his voice.
With his heart rate and breathing finally slowing, Peter released his hold on the ceiling and let himself drop to the floor, landing in a crouch. He stood and awkwardly dusted himself off.
“Uh, yeah,” he answered, his face flaming with embarrassment, “I’m fine. You just startled me.”
If Tony’s eyebrows went any higher, they would likely become part of his hairline.
“Don’t you have that whole Peter-tingle thing that’s supposed to warn you?” the billionaire questioned skeptically.

He was sober enough when they arrived to take in the flashing blue and red lights in the early morning light. Then he caught a glimpse of Pepper, still resplendent in her evening dress, doubled over, weeping, inconsolable.
“He's gone,” Pepper whispered through her tears, as he stumbled out of the car and made his way to her, “He's gone.”
Tony swallowed the lump in his throat, reaching out to hold her. She pushed herself from his grasp and took a step back, shaking her head. In the fog of the quickly developing hangover, he pieces of what the detective were saying. Masked gunmen. Forcing their way in. The babysitter, one they used often, shot whole protecting their son, and Peter, his precious boy, gone. Without a trace.

The sunlight streaming into the room signaled he should probably be getting up, especially if he didn't want a wake up call from Morgan (or worse, her father). But for the moment, the warmth of sun on his face and the salty air wafting through the open window was too relaxing, leaving him debating about whether the child (or her father) barging into his room was all that terrible.
