Grace has mentioned that he is a scientist as well as a teacher to human children. On Erid, only our Elders would step down from their purpose to impart their knowledge on the next generation. Grace must be very old indeed to become a teacher, and to be chosen for this mission.

Summary
When Shanks and his crew first arrive at the quiet little fishing village where Vice Admiral Garp is rumored to spend his vacation time, there’s a kid on the dock who waves so enthusiastically at their incoming ship that he slips off the damp boards and topples into the water. Instantly, two smaller kids (who definitely weren’t waving) yelp and jump after him, grabbing the flailing kid’s arms in an effort to drag him towards dry land.
It’s funny, but not so funny Shanks doesn’t feel kinda bad, so he leaps down to help.
Which is how he meets nine year old Monkey D. Luffy, and his adopted six year old brothers, Ace and Sabo.

The words died in his throat along with the shatter of the mug against the floor. But Eddie barely noticed he dropped it, his mouth slightly agape as he stared at Buck, took in the bruises, and the blood, and general brokenness of the man before him.

Or: After the Lawsuit, Buck is starting to think his team will never forgive him and is feeling lonelier than ever, when his dad shows up, looking for money that Buck doesn't have. Now, his ribs are broken and his face has been pummelled into one big bruise. All he wants to do is retreat to his empty apartment and wallow in his own self-pity, but before that he needs to get his keys, which he'd left at the station the previous night.
Everyone else is on shift, so he's hoping he can sneak into the locker room and be gone before anyone notices he was there, but this is Buck, so of course, nothing goes to plan.

Summary
Sanji is pretty sure the older boys don’t like him very much, but Luffy makes up for it. Luffy isn’t quiet or shy about the things he hates or the things he likes, and Sanji would have to be deaf and blind to miss how much Luffy likes him.
It makes him willing to put up with Ace and Sabo’s bad attitudes—willing to spend his free time climbing a mountain, picking his way carefully to the edge of the dense, looming rainforest, to cook meals for a group that is two-thirds suspicious and ungrateful—because then he’ll get to see Luffy’s big, silly smile.
Sanji is quickly learning that he would do almost anything to see that.
The cruise ship Sanji works on docks at Dawn Island, where he meets three of the locals, who worm their way into his life and change it forever.

Summary
Sabo burns with hatred. He wants to claw Outlook’s eyes out, snap his neck, drag his body into the jungle and let the big cats have him for a snack. He feels like a wicker creature, nothing but sticks brought to life with love like a magical spell from a storybook. Only it’s the burnt ends of love, the remnants of it after grief has eaten its fill, and heartbreak has turned the spell bitter, has given it teeth.
Luffy’s hand is wrapped tight around his, and his eyes are wide and round and anxious, the way they always look when he thinks Sabo is thinking about going away without him.
“I have a condition,” Sabo says, sounding, to his own ears, disconcertingly like his father when his father is doing business.
It might be that, more than anything, that causes Outlook to consider him thoughtfully.
“I’m listening,” the man says.
