Summary
It was another day in Hearts, when the queen recieved some curious news. Catherine Pinkerton paused her duties of sending her subjects to the gallows, and embarked on yet another adventure down fate's path. A path that led her straight through white rose backyards, lemon-flavoured egg tarts and honey-eyed sweethearts.
—After finishing Heartless, I seriously couldn't accept the fact that Cath's fate ended the way it did. But it seemed as though there was no hope for an alternate ending, since twenty years later, we learn through Alice's eyes that Cath is still the Queen of Hearts, has had ten children with the king (dayum), and executes people mercilessly. I thought, is this really how Cath's story ends? After tons of research, spending hours combing through the original novels of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Through the looking glass, and of course overly analysing every tiny detail in Marissa's Heartless, I came up with a solution!—

Summary
“What inspired the tarts today?” her mother asked, eyes falling on the tray cooling to the side.
Catherine followed her gaze. “I'm not sure,” she said, turning back with a shrug. “Just a whim.”
Her mother gave her a small, amused smile. Catherine immediately bristled, recognising that smile for what it was: trouble.
“It wouldn't have anything to do with that knight, perhaps?” her mother said lightly, exchanging a look with her father.
In a new life, Catherine and Jest get to start over: they get another chance at love.

Summary
Pyro had spent his entire life never being good enough.
His parents had cut him out of their will and left him to fend for himself because he wasn’t sufficiently accomplished. Even without another heir to replace him, they’d decided he wasn’t worth the time or effort. No professor had ever taken notice of him either. He was a mediocre student. Not so incompetent to be remarkable, nor so brilliant to earn himself their admiration.
And now, he was a creature of the night, and he couldn’t even excel at that. He didn’t doubt that his Sire would soon grow frustrated with him and leave him for the villagers to tear apart. It was an inevitability, especially after he’d failed to control himself with Shelby. And yet, there was still hope in his cold, unbeating heart. Maybe if he just tried a bit harder, he could earn his Sire’s forgiveness.

Summary
But then Scott stopped talking, and Pyro quickly followed suit. The nobleman’s nose scrunched up, his now pointier ears (seriously, how had nobody noticed that? He wasn’t crazy! They just refused to look!) twitched. All that Avid could hear was his own heartbeat. He wasn’t breathing, he wasn’t moving. He refused to let out a single sound. He wasn’t ready, not to go against two of them. Maybe if he’d just come across one of them by themselves, he could have… surely if it was Pyro. Scott he was far more afraid of.
“It sounds like we have company”. Following Scott’s words, everything moved in slow motion. The vampire’s head turned, their eyes locked together, and then Avid was running.
He didn’t know where he was going. There was nowhere for him to run. He was far away from town, outside of any proper path, and, most importantly, nobody believed him. Nobody had tried going after him. He had no allies left. Nobody would have known if he had died.
Avid was going to die.
