Still clad in invisibility, Death licks his teeth and starts circling the group.
Watching Puss in Boots fight—sharp, nimble, graceful and brilliant—is a sight to behold, for sure.
But watching him endure? Gritted teeth, fur matted with sweat, ears folded down and twitching with every wince… struggling to hold in his pained gasps but decidedly not trying to get away, willingly accepting wounds and bruises and broken bones… Death has no need for air and yet the sight never fails to steal his breath.
"I don't want to die yet. But some days, I need you to remind me what it's like to fear for my life," the cat told him almost a year ago. "Remind me why I need to appreciate being alive."
