Summary
“So, how did you end up becoming a firefighter?” Agnes asked, leaning up against the side of the engine as she watched Buck restock after a call.
Buck could sense the implications of the question, she was asking how an omega became a firefighter, she just wasn’t allowed to outright ask.
Buck shrugged, “I was living in Peru, ended up moving here with some guys I met out there and decided to try out to become a firefighter.”
“So you just… became a firefighter?”
“Yeah, pretty much, passed with flying colours, top five in my class.” Of course Buck knew all about the stigmas surrounding omega firefighters, they were a rare breed. So the fact that Buck had not only qualified but qualified in the top five (beating multiple alphas) was practically unheard of.
Even without being able to smell the alpha he could tell that had riled her up, most alphas didn’t like the fact that he, an omega, was a better firefighter than them, and Agnes was no different.
“Wow, top five.” She got out through gritted teeth, “You must be quite something.”

Summary
As soon as she got home she did all four tests and set a timer on her phone. She paced around, too anxious to stand still, waiting for the results. It wasn’t that she was scared because she didn’t want a kid, she was scared because she might have to seriously sit down and make some extremely difficult decisions.
Eventually the timer went so she walked over to the bathroom counter, looking down at all four tests.
Positive.

Slowly but surely, Bobby and Athena managed to get Evelyn to open up more, showing her whole face as she spoke, still chewing on the drawstring. She was still shy and withdrawn, often stopping mid ramble and apologising, but Bobby and Athena offered gentle encouragement so that she’d go back to splurging.
“You know Evie, if you did want to come and stay with us, I could take you to the station and show you around the place.”
“Would that be allowed?” She asked, voice quiet again.
Bobby offered her a sincere smile, “Of course it is, I’m the Captain, so what I say goes.”
And then, for the first time since they’d met, Evie smiled. It was small, shaky and subdued but a smile nonetheless.

Buck climbed out of the ambulance and scrambled around the back to find Eddie also standing there, “Are you alright?” He asked, pulling her into a hug. In retrospect making the fact that they were in a relationship extremely obvious wasn’t a good idea, but they were both so worried about the other they didn’t think.
She clung on tightly, not wanting to let go, “I’m fine. Are you?”
“Yeah, yeah, I’m fine.”
“Would you look at that, we got ourselves a pair of love birds.” The prisoner who’d been upfront chuckled, “Isn’t that ideal.”

Summary
When Buck agreed to move in with the guys he’d met in Peru he hadn’t realised it was an all alpha house or that they were making an active choice for it to be as such. As they’d assumed he was an alpha they didn’t see any point in mentioning it, besides Buck had fallen into a habit of wearing scent patches years ago as he couldn’t be bothered with all the ‘you don’t look like an omega’ comments he always got, nor was he secretive about wearing them, the see through patches visible as they were glossy, standing out against matt skin.
But as soon as Buck realised what was going on he came clean, knowing better than to lie about his secondary gender or lead the alphas on, because that would only spell trouble for him.
Thankfully the group had been kind enough to let him stay, even if he did get the occasional snide remark about him being their token omega and a packless one at that. But it was a small price to pay for a roof over his head.

Summary
The song for their first dance wasn’t anything crazy, it was I Don’t Want To Miss A Thing by Aerosmith. The song was extremely fitting; not only was it a gorgeous rock ballad but the night they’d first kissed they’d been watching Armageddon, so how could they not use it?
As soon as the music began to play they got lost in each other, everyone else fading away as Buck and Eddie swayed back and forth, with the occasional twirl.

Buck felt weird, something was definitely wrong but he couldn’t put his finger on it, so he did his best to shrug it off. But no matter what he couldn’t get rid of the itch in the back of his skull, the feeling of his wolf getting restless.
He was jittery and confused, everything around him feeling like it was spinning out of control, but he didn’t have time for this, there was too much to do, he was only a probie, five months in no less, he couldn’t fuck it up already.
So he did his best to push it aside, putting everything into his work in the hopes that no one would notice.

“Hey, baby, you with me?” Eddie asked, squatting down in front of her, taking both of her hands in his as he watched her face, expression still blank, “Evie? Evie, you there baby?” He tried again, but got no response out of her.
He reached out and placed a gentle hand on her cheek, gently stroking his thumb back and forth, “Evie, I need you to come back.” At that Buck leant into the contact, eyes slipping shut as she relaxed into her husband’s hand, “Good girl.” He praised, “Good job. Can you squeeze my hand for me?” She followed his instructions and gave a light squeeze, “You’re doing so well sweetheart. Can you open your eyes? I want to see those pretty blues.” Her eyes fluttered open and Eddie couldn’t stop the smile that overtook his face, “Hello beautiful.”
“Hi.” She whispered, causing Eddie to grin even harder.“Can you tell me what happened?” He asked.
Buck looked over Eddie’s shoulder so she could see where they’d been standing minutes before, “That’s Adam.”

“Mr Diaz, I’m so glad you’re here.” Jamerson greeted, shaking Eddie’s hand, “I won’t beat around the bush here, but the omega we have in here is in quite a state, one of the worst I’ve ever seen quite frankly.” If Doctor Jamerson was saying that then it had to be extremely bad as the man had been a heat doctor for over 40 years, “From what we’ve managed to gather it took five minutes for his heat to set in and he’s been getting progressively worse for the last 30 minutes. We had him briefly sedated as he was reacting badly to some of the tests we were having to run. The weird thing is, when we got him to smell the scent samples, not only did he react well to yours but he knew you by name and then refused to smell anyone else's, becoming hysterical until we agreed to get you.”
Eddie knew who it was, there was only one person it could be, but he needed to know for sure, “What’s his name?”

“A-Athena, you need to get down to Prespytarian, now.” Hen’s voice was weak and shaky, the adrenalin leaving her, only fear and exhaustion remaining.
There was a pause on the other end, one too long to be considered normal, but eventually Athena spoke “Which one?”
“It’s Buck.” Hen sniffled, trying to stay strong, “Athena, s-she was struck by lightning.”

The next time she woke up she was lying on a solid floor, if the chill was anything to go by she’d assume it was concrete.
She didn’t open her eyes yet, choosing to take stock of everything first.
Her feet felt weirdly light and cold, ah, she didn’t have any shoes or socks on, that would do it, and she was missing her shirt, thankfully her top was still on though. Small blessings. Her hands and ankles were still tied, and there was something shoved in her mouth and tied at the back of her head. She was, however, injury free, which made her feel more unsettled than it probably should have, if they weren’t going to beat her up or hurt her why had they bothered taking her? Jesus, her brain was too cloudy to figure anything out.
She eventually blinked her eyes open and shook her head to get her hair out of her face, but she could’ve sworn she’d had it up in braids earlier? Then again she’d also been wearing shoes and a shirt earlier.
“Good to see you awake.” A voice said, making her look up, “Hello Ms Grant-Nash.” Jeffery fucking Hudson, shit!
