“Just saying, if you’re taking another hit, you should share it with me,” Mike says, and Will slowly tilts his head, drinking in every word. “It just makes sense. Like, mathematically.”

Will’s reddened eyes narrow, bewildered. “Mathematically?”

“If there’s two hits left, we’d each only get one,” Mike explains. “But if we shotgunned, we’d both get two.” God, this is the best idea he’s had in ages. He should’ve stolen Will’s weed, like, months ago. “That’s like, bang for your buck. This is simple math, Will Byers. Keep up.”

In which it’s well past midnight in New York, Will can’t sleep, and Mike feels like they barely know each other anymore.

So, they get a little high. Mike is very normal about all of it.

“Looks like I bit you.” Will tilts his head to get a better look. All Mike can do is stare at him. His fluffy hair at the front, clumped pieces at the back where he’d slid his fingers in a mere few minutes before. His pretty green eyes that look hazel or even brown in this light, the dark circles he gets when he drinks framing them like intricate paintings. A satisfied, bloody smile.

Mike isn’t satisfied. He swallows thickly, choking down the words 'don’t you want more?'

Or: Will dresses as a vampire for a college halloween party, but Mike thinks his costume isn’t bloody enough. Will lets him fix it. Mike goes into a crisis.

    Summary

It’s at that very moment that, for reasons completely and utterly unknown to anyone at all, every single possible word he has ever learned from any language ever has suddenly disappeared from his brain, and his throat feels relevant to the Sahara Desert.

None of this, of course, has to do with the fact that Will is very, very, very – shirtless.

Will blinks at him. “Are you okay?”

“Shoulders,” Mike says, sounding vaguely chipmunk-like, and he hears Max barely choke down a snicker.

Will comes back for the summer, and Mike deals with it.
    Kind of. Not really.

"I'm going to explain the project now." Miss Johnson smiled, looking around her classroom.

Her eyes lingered on Steve and Eddie for a moment. Steve was getting the message that she thought they'd be a massive disaster as partners for this. The popular pretty boy and the nerdy freak. What an unusual combination.

"For this home economics assignment, I am giving you the task of taking care of a child for a week."

Oh. Steve's eyes went wide and his gaze flew to Eddie, who was already looking at him with a mirrored expression.

Or, Steve and Eddie are partners for an assignment in their home economics class. Their teacher likes to call it The Baby Project.

    Summary

So: waiting, in the evening, for the alert to appear, so that the herpetology records may be updated with the latest snakes, lizards, turtles, and frogs that Wei Ying has collected in the “Burial Mounds”. There is no location data associated with this name, no matter how many geolocation requests are submitted. (Nie Huaisang once claimed to know where the Burial Mounds are, but Nie Huaisang also claims that shadow boxes are a responsible method of arthropod preservation, so Lan Wangji has his doubts. The pinned butterflies are, however, very beautiful.)

(or: a snapshot of a natural history museum collection au, feat. herpetologist WWX, botanist LWJ, remote access, and coming home.)
