Summary
Marius returns from the dead, and something in Armand begins to change.
At first Daniel can blame five hundred years of grief, old conditioning, and a reunion neither of them ever expected to happen. Then Armand starts pulling away. The familiar rules between maker and fledgling begin disappearing one by one, and Daniel is left trying to understand how a marriage that once felt immovable became something he no longer knows how to stand inside.
Daniel has survived losing Armand before.

Armand says stay, Daniel complains and stays. Armand says come, Daniel makes him ask twice. Daniel misbehaves, Armand corrects him, and somewhere along the way Daniel gets called a good boy.
It’s an old language. Familiar. Safe.
So when Armand gets distracted and starts forgetting his half of it, Daniel does what any perfectly well-adjusted seventy-year-old fledgling would do.
He gets worse.

September 4, 1973. The anniversary of the original interview. Although he’s fairly certain that’s not the particular anniversary that they’re celebrating.
“You consider our Polynesian Mary’s meet-cute to be our anniversary?” Daniel asks, and clearly his brain really is fucked, because why would he be questioning this?
“I do,” Armand says, nipping at Daniel’s earlobe. “I remember seeing you walk into the bar, the most beautiful boy I’d ever seen.”
“Bullshit,” Daniel says with a chuckle, which is severely undercut by a following groan. “You’re literally from Renaissance Italy. You expect me to buy that?”
“And why not? I saw you, I wanted you, and when you locked eyes with mine, I saw that you wanted me too,” Armand purrs in his ear, punctuating the sentiment with a roll of his hips.
Daniel bites back another groan, his cock rapidly filling out. “Yeah, well, I mean, look at you.”
“I know you were disappointed when I declined Louis’s offer to join you,” Armand says, and Daniel can hear the smirk growing. “Wise decision, because now I have you all to myself.”

Daniel wants ‘Rashid’ and Armand wants Daniel. So, late at night, in the quiet dark of the Dubai penthouse, Armand decides to do something about it.
He knocks on Daniel’s bedroom door, dressed as Rashid, and Daniel tells him to come in.

Armand cups Daniel’s face with his free hand, and Daniel’s mouth falls open on another gasp. He strokes Daniel’s cheek with his thumb, all the way up to his earlobe, rubbing it gently, soothing.
“I know,” he says. “It’s okay. You know, I haven’t done it like this in a long time.”
“Yeah?” Daniel asks, panting.
“Yeah,” Armand replies. “You will be the first I’ve been inside in decades.”
