Summary
For Lan Wangji, the twenty years since Nightless city have been a slow, relentless descent into a particular kind of hell that only those who lost everything and survived could truly understand. Pushed to the brink of sanity and grief, Lan Wangji leaves everything behind hoping for nothing except perhaps one day finding a fragile inner peace. Settling in a valley beautiful beyond words after long years of wandering, things take a strange turn when he discovers an ancient fox shrine. When a barely alive body finds its way in his home, Lan Wangji's heart beats again.
This is a story of healing and friendship, of finding family and a home, of finding peace and undying love.

"Lying on his side, Levi watched attentively as his little pup slept peacefully. The rays of daylight illuminating the room didn't seem to disturb her at all. Her little belly swelled and deflated gently to the rhythm of her breaths, her pink lips puckered every now and then. Levi would occasionally clean up a little bubble of saliva.
He never grew tired of looking at her: so adorable, soft and smelling of milk, and as chubby as a baby should be. Lifting one little foot the raven admired the tiny toes. Gods…she was so beautiful it still was hard to believe that it was him who brought her into this world."
Or : several years after the end of the war, Levi gets everything he never thought he could have.

‘Smile like that,’ says Wei Wuxian, in a very how dare you!!!! sort of fashion. ‘How am I supposed to think when I know you can smile like that!’
‘Don’t think,’ Lan Wangji advises.

Wei Wuxian comes back to the Cloud Recesses for the winter months. He and Lan Wangji learn that emotional intimacy and physical intimacy are not (yet) quite synonymous.
