On the Sunday before last, Thalia Grace, a self-proclaimed spinster, has made her return to high society—the same society she abandoned for its repressive qualities if I recall her wording. Thalia’s brother, Jason Grace, has only recently wed to the ward of the Blofis household, one Lady Reyna Avila Grace née Ramírez-Arellano, and it’s rumored that the newlyweds are not in full agreement regarding Miss Grace’s reappearance. Perhaps not all is pleasurable for the pair so shortly after their ‘happy’ day.

She didn’t tell Reyna about how the girl she loved was one of her best friends, one of the best people she’d ever known. How she was uplifting and never let Piper get too down on herself, which she definitely had the habit of doing. She didn’t tell Reyna that she had the most stunning dark eyes, pretty pink lips, and a dazzling smile that always made Piper’s heart race a little when she was the cause of it. She couldn’t tell Reyna any of that.
But Piper thought Reyna picked up on something she hadn’t said, because her best friend smiled. A slow, almost sad smile. “You sound like you’re in love.”

Leaving a heartbroken but understanding Jason behind, Piper is ready for the next chapter of her life. And she knows one thing for sure: she wants Reyna to be apart of it.

The fact of the matter is this: in the past year, she’s watched both of her best friends die, and being unable to reach Leo on Jason’s birthday is kind of pushing her over the edge.
Unwilling to shoulder everything on her own, she sends an Iris Message.Reyna has been a Hunter for three months. In a way, distancing herself from New Rome helps. But what little closure she has isn’t enough to prepare her for dealing with Jason’s birthday on her own.
