Summary
Sure, Dean’s cursed to die—cursed to have his breath stolen from him—on his twenty-fourth birthday. Uh-huh, thanks for that, Mom. Some real Rapunzel bullshit, there.
But here’s the thing: Dean’s a hunter. He’s got iron around his neck, jade on his wrists, and Latin on his tongue. Ain’t no fucking curse gonna take him and then move on to Sammy after.
He doesn’t expect that his curse has a name.
But what kind of name is ‘Castiel,’ anyway?

Summary
Cas blinked up at him, and—thank God—he looked at least partially lucid. “Dean,” he said, “is it going to feel like that every time?”
Which. Okay. What a question. “Um.” How was he supposed to talk an angel through multiple forced orgasms?

Summary
“What would you like to learn in school?” Mrs Keating asks, when it becomes clear that Dean won’t add anything else, and Dean shakes his head, because it would have been fucking useful to know so many things - how to cook healthy stuff on a motel’s half-broken stove, and how to deal with a kid brother who feels responsible for their mother’s death, and how to say no to his father, how to say yes to Gary Williams - sweet, stupid Gary, who’d tried to kiss Dean in the locker rooms back in Ohio and had been beaten bloody because of it.

“So, what is it that I should know?” asks Cas, when it becomes clear Dean won't say anything else, and Dean's head swivels around so quickly he almost pulls a muscle in his neck and dies.
“About gay sex?” he croaks.

Summary
“Look,” Dean grits, pinching at the bridge of his nose, “You’ve got a body. Your body.” (Castiel, not long ago: “Jimmy…his soul was not returned to me.”) “You’re gonna damn well learn how to use it.” The hunter reaches under the seat to jerk at the lever, sliding back the whole of the front bench and badly startling Castiel with the unexpected jolt of movement. “And, hate to break it to you, but this town’s really not that big. You just got yourself kicked out of the only joint that’s got the professionals at work.”
Dean twists to lean against the car door, pulling up a leg to lay across the seat. The moment stretches, silent and tense.
“I ain’t gonna fuck you,” he says, voice gruff, “but I’ll talk you through it.”

Summary
Dean knows exactly why he’d pulled Cas out of the Empty. It’s not charity. It’s selfishness. He’d made Cas lose his paradise, the version of life the Empty had created for him with his mirage of Dean, just because Dean was too scared to be alone. Dean had promised Cas that he’d pretend for him. He’d said he’d do whatever Cas needed to be as happy here as he’d been in the Empty’s reality. But Dean doesn’t even know how to be the person Cas thinks he is.
Either Cas is lying, or his standards are impossibly low. Cas apparently thought it’d be enough for him just to be near Dean. But that’s not what love should be. It should want something back. Dean’s own feelings are irrelevant. He wants Cas, wants to be someone who deserves him. He can’t have him. He can’t construct a monologue about his reasons for loving Cas like Cas had done for him. He’s pretty sure that holding Cas’s hand would make him combust, after so long subsisting on scraps of shoulder-pats and Cas only touching him to heal him.

Summary
Castiel doesn’t know how he got from the Empty to the floor of a barn. The last thing he remembers is saying his confession before falling with Dean onto the hay. And Dean has been different since his rescue, has thrown out all boundaries he’d ever said were customary. Humans always manage to surprise Castiel. Dean surprises him most of all.

Summary
“As for your current predicament… there may be something I can do to help.” Cas looks hesitant even as he says it, casting his eyes sidelong at Dean.
Dean turns to him. “What d’you mean?”
Castiel’s lips press into a thin line, all of the jovial glint gone from his eyes. “PTSD and trauma can alter pathways and connections in your brain, in a very physical way. Because these changes are physical… it may be possible to… heal them, in a sense.”
“Heal my brain?” Dean shoots back incredulously.

Summary
Oh god. By the time Dean is visualizing, compulsively, the last good fuck he had, he knows that he’s made a mistake. Within the next mile of walking, he can’t even delude himself into ignoring it anymore; he can feel a trickle of moisture running down the inside of his thigh. Oh god.
Castiel has had plenty of time to get used to the idiosyncrasies of his symptoms, but the way his focus shifts towards this particular scent that reaches him on the barest breeze -- it’s somehow different.
And somehow he knows, automatically, that it’s not happy-heat-mate but scared and sick and alone.

Summary
He's about to ask who the hell she is, what the hell she thinks she's playing at— but then she squints, like she's trying to look past Dean's eyes to see right into him, and her head cocks birdlike, just so, and it tugs at something under his ribs, blooming into an ache that feels as good as it hurts, because somehow, it's him. It's Cas.
The Empty sends Castiel back different.

Summary
“Weddings- marriage- it’s weird.” Dean pauses. “I don’t get it, but I also kinda envy them, ya know?” A deep breath in. He sniffles like a nervous habit. “Like, somehow I thought I’d be dead by thirty, but I also had this thing in my head that I’d get married. That’s what guys are supposed to do- what people are supposed to do. Get married. Just felt like something that would automatically happen whether I wanted it to or not.”
“Did you want it to?”
Yes.
Dean pushes his lips out. “Don’t know how much it matters. Pipe dreams usually stay in the pipe.”
