Summary
Hizashi feels… nervous. Riled up, as if he’s about to go on patrol or is coming down from a hard fight. He knows that whatever he’s going to hear isn’t going to be nice. From what the boys have mentioned and what he saw in that hospital room and what Shou whispered to him in stolen moments… it’s going to be hard to sit through. But he’ll do it for their kids.
“Can you tell me about your relationship with your previous foster parents, Miyata Yuriko and Miyata Takao, in as much detail as possible?”
And so it begins.

“Thought I was dreaming last night,” Hitoshi says, peacefully unaware of the way he's cracking open Shouta’s cold heart and stomping on the pieces. His voice sounds better, only a little hoarse. Whether Hitoshi is so willing to talk because he feels genuinely safe or because he's too tired to be scared… well. Time will tell. “But you’re still here.”
Shouta opens his mouth to say… something, but the lump in his throat grows larger. He was so close to never meeting this kid. So, terrifyingly close. Zashi takes over for him. “Of course we are, listener. We’re always going to be here for you now.”
And that's his husband. Dropping forever not even twelve hours after first laying eyes on the kid. Kami, does Shouta love him.

Izumi loved that scar. When she was too young to know what it was, she had smeared red paint over one eye and stuck a paper five-pronged crown in her ponytail. Dad didn’t like it. She didn’t understand why, until he explained what a scar was and why it hurt him to see her pretending to have one.
And now this man was going to give her one for real.
The smoke burned her throat. She choked, crying too hard now to form proper sentences, too scared to say anything other than, “Dad.”
