Summary
The Trathiran Empire, mightiest nation in the world, is an army with a state. It is also recently bankrupt. Emperor Iacobus III Silvester has fallen in battle, and his daughter Griffin is the real power behind the throne in the Imperial capital of Tiongraf - yet the man that now sits on it, Alessio Albinius, is not one that she loves or even cares about, nor one that can be trusted.
To the south, in Calorad City, largest urban center in the Empire, the Empress’ long-time partner Alexandria Soterion rules a third of the Empire in all but name. Calorad is wealthy and remains affluent even in this crisis due to its control of vital overseas trade lanes - and Albinius senses in this an opportunity to extort much-needed money to fuel Tiongraf’s economy. When a plot to secure his own power backfires, Griffin and Alex flee Alessio’s clutches and build up to retake the capital for themselves, while Albinius makes ready to give his all for the glory of the Empire.

Summary
Lexa transfers to Polis University in the middle of the term to be closer to her sister Anya when she's not in the best mental state. There she discovers Anya and her friends (also Lexa's friends by association) have kind of a feud going on with an opposing group known around campus as The Delinquents (which Lexa thinks is just a stupid name if she's honest). In all actuality Lexa really doesn't care about the social situation, preferring to ignore it. But Clarke Griffin, the leader of The Delinquents seems to have taken an interest in her and well... Lexa for some reason can't help but be intrigued by her. They strike up a deal because Lexa has a 102% in class and Clarke wants to do better than a C (or so she says). In return for tutoring Clarke is to help Lexa acquire the proper social skills to obtain a girl she has her eye on (without actually having to reveal who the girl is to Clarke anyway). This deal is meant to be kept secret as is their slow bonding friendship that forms over the course of the term would not go over well with their rivaling friend groups.
Nor would the fact that the girl Lexa's trying to woo is the one teaching her how.

The fact that Finn – her boyfriend – doesn’t cross her mind even once whenever her thoughts decide to wander towards the enigma that is Lexa Woods, should scare the shit out of her. She should be feeling guilty, but instead she’s too wrapped up in the brunette athlete with the forest green eyes; attempting to decrypt every quirk of those plump limps, every word uttered from them, every crinkle of that regal nose, every flutter of those eyelashes or touch from those sinfully long fingers – until she can find… What? What is she even looking for?

Clarke and Lexa have an arrangement. You know, the typical 'We're both attracted to each other, so why not screw each other's brains out?' type arrangement. And that is all fine and dandy, until they catch feelings for each other. They both know they should stop what they're doing; that what they have will only end up in pain and disappointment.
